I asked if she could beprescribed the new memory drug which I stressed she could pay for herself savingthe NHS much needed funds. Her GP said he would look into it. Some weeks later we revisited as we’d heardnothing. This time he explained only the NHS can prescribe the drug, but hecouldn’t refer her until she’d taken a memory test and scored below a certain figure. On taking the test she somehow passed – amazing when she couldn’t evenremember if she’d eaten breakfast or lunch that day, or tell me what she’d had. Thefollowing months went on the same - memory test after memory test until one dayshe was found wandering the streets and taken into care. Her memory at that stage had become so bad that the Doctor in the care homesuggested she should be prescribed the memory drug! However, he stressed this canonly stop the condition worsening. The really annoying thing is that had she beenprescribed it earlier she would still be fully active and living at home, but instead is institutionalised. So much for the TV ads! Perhaps they should add a line at the end saying, “and when your prescription is refused, popabroad and buy it over the counter at your local chemists.”D RuddEmailIf you have something to say that you wish to share with the rest of Lincolnshire Today readers please dropus a line to the usual address. The best of the mailbag will win a case of wine.Lincolnshire Today Magazine, Armstrong House, Armstrong Street, Grimsby, N E Lincs DN31 2QE Email: lincs-today@blmgroup.co.uk HAVE YOUR SAYClarkson rulesDear Sir,Why on earth are people getting so het up about Jeremy Clarkson’s comments onThe One Show? I am one of the millions of public workers who recently joined mycolleagues to stand outdoors in the cold and damp to show our government whatwe think. I saw Clarkson on TV and to be honest, I thought he was very funny - as didmany of my co workers. What he said was purely for comic effect. We all know hisdry sense of humour – I mean look at the way he insulted Mexico and the time hedrove through America with anti-religious slogans on his car. It’s all part of his appeal. The reaction by Unison was way over the top, and tosome extent has eclipsed what the strike was all about. My guess is that half thepeople writing into the BBC about it didn’t even know what the strike was about. M PickCleethorpesReaders’LETTERSBetter latethan neverDear Sir,Positive things really seem to behappening in our region. First we hear thatthe bridge toll is to be halved; although Iunderstand this hasn’t taken effect yet. Thenwe hear that the new bypass for Lincolnshirehas been given the green light at £96million, although we have to wait anothertwo years for work to commence. But why such a long wait for work to evenstart? Surely the jobs and the bypass areneeded now not in two years time. And,where did this money miraculously appearfrom? It makes you baulk that Lincolnshirehas lobbied for twenty odd years for betterroads and now it suits the authorities theycan suddenly find the money.Ah well, better late than never – which iswhat most of us resign ourselves to whencommuting at the moment. The kitchen has been modernised, but the layout of the house is very much as it would havebeen in the 19th Century. Tom and Amanda Scott still havethe original plans of the vicarage displayed on the wall andthis wonderful piece of history has been carefully preservedand passed on from one owner to the next.Lincolnshire Today visited the house recently and Tomkindly gave us the guided tour. Although a very grandproperty, the house is very much a traditional home and hasa lovely ambience to it. Steeped in history, the house wouldhave originally accommodated the vicar and his servants allunder one roof. Today, the two separate staircases remain, one leading to the main living quarters and the other to themaids’ accommodation. This layout is a unique feature ofthe property and today it means that teenage children orfamily guests have their own space and privacy in anenclosed wing. With principal elevations looking into its own gardensand the main entrance door on the eastern side to linkeasily to the Church, Scarborough House cannot be fullyappreciated from a roadside view and we were curious tofind out more. The home benefits from gas central heatingand double glazing carefully designed to reflect the style ofthe original windows. 017-020:Layout 1 8/12/11 14:29 Page 2LINCOLNSHIRETODAY19HOMESLuna Ceramics, the complete solutionVilleroy & Boch Studio now open25 displays of bathroom and shower solutions.
