It’s use in facialcosmetic procedures was discovered quite byaccident when treating patients for ‘cross eyed’and has taken off since its initial use in the1980s. It is the most well researched minorcosmetic procedure and there have beenthousands of scientific papers on it. How does BOTOX® work? Different brands work slightly differently butthe quickest acting is Azzalure which will preventsmovement within 2-5 days but the creases maytake a while to drop out. I often liken it to acrumpled shirt. You may puck it up and put it ona hanger to allow the wrinkles to drop out, but itstill takes a while for this to then happen, so youwill usually see results after about 2 weeks. Will my face look overdone or unnatural? How much BTX is injected and where it isplaced will impact on the results, so if youwanted to be completely frozen you can be... butif like most you’d like a gentle softening of thelines of expression such a frown lines, this can bedone without looking unnatural or frozen. What should I expect? Theinjections usually just take a few minutes andare about as uncomfortable as plucking youreyebrows. How much time does treatment take? I would usually allow up to an hour for a newpatient consultation just so we have plenty oftime to work out exactly what you would likeand make sure we have planned perfectly butthe actual injection time for BTX is only a fewminutes. You may choose to come backanother day for this if you want to have a goodthink about all the options discussed. How long is the recovery time aftertreatment? This is often billed as a ‘lunchtime’ treatmentas it really is very swift and there’s very littledowntime associated with it. You would usuallyhave little raised bumps at the sites it has beeningested but these usually disappear in 10-15minutes so patients will often go straight backto work or to the shops! There’s always a risk ofbruising but that is rare, and if you do get one,it’s likely to be very small. How many injections will I receive? The injections are prescribed to treat exactlywhat your concerns are so the number will varyaccordingly. Typically it is usually about 15small injections for frown lines and crows feet. What were common side effects seen inclinical studies? There are very few side effects. One that’soften mentioned is lowering of the brows butthis is usually very easily avoided by carefulplacement. 42-43.qxp_Layout 1 11/12/2018 11:32 Page 244 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYHEALTH & FITNESSWhether your resolution is to get fit, find a new job or to sort out yourfinances, no matter what it is, your chances of being successful are almostentirely down to you. If you want to be successful in losing weight, getting fitor achieving that washboard stomach then firstly you need to know that thereis no “magic pill” to success. Maybe you’ve found yourself in the past saying,“I’ve tried every diet, and nothing has worked for me” or “I tried so and sofitness program, but I never saw any results”. Let’s get this straight, if you arefollowing a diet or program to lose X pounds in Z weeks before you go onholiday then this is not going to lead to some lifelong health and fitness.Maybe in the past finding time to juggle work, family life and other hobbieshas been your excuse for failing to take your health into your own hands.Don’t worry, time is the number one excuse we hear again and again. Thereare 24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week, 8736 hours in a year. An averageof only 30 minutes of exercise per day, 210 minutes per week, 182 hours peryear is the equivalent of just 2% of your time. With the right knowledge andtime management you can achieve your fitness goals in just 2% of your time. What we know about weight loss is similar to what we know about allphysical fitness adaptations: that it happens because of a multitude of small, consistent changes over time, not because we’ve suddenly hit upon the latestmiracle diet. This month’s walk, which has much to offerthe reader, takes us to Hagworthingham, awolds village that, uncannily, remains thesame size as it was when recorded in theDomesday Book, over a millennium or soago. Back in the 11th century, the village, knownthen as “Haberdingham”, was a substantialsettlement and most of the surrounding landhad been granted by William the Conquerorto Alan, Earl of Brittany.A new year unfolds and whatbetter time to enjoy a walk inthe wolds 46-48.qxp_Layout 1 10/12/2018 11:59 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY47LINCOLNSHIRE WALKSThe Domesday Book reveals there usedto be a mill in the village too, though thepresent mill building is said to have onlybeen in existence since 1816. It must havebeen well built though as it remained inworking order until the early 1940s beforefalling into disrepair and subsequentlybecoming derelict after some of itsmachinery was relocated to Horncastle. Our route also takes in St Margaret’schurch at Bag Enderby, although it’s hard tounderstand how the congregation couldhave filled it since there were only 70 or soresidents at its ‘height’. The church itselfwas built of local greenstone and patchedPHOTOS COURTESY OR RICHARD PICKSLEY48 Á46-48.qxp_Layout 1 10/12/2018 11:59 Page 248 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYLINCOLNSHIRE WALKSwith brick. Sadly, only thestump of the churchyardcross survived, theRoundheads and thebattles that ensued in thisregion. The RouteFrom the lay-by in Hagworthinghamvillage centre, we follow the shortroute to the lane junction and turnright, keeping forward when the lanebecomes a track, then a path, andbegins to head downhill again.Waymarks soon direct us left, thenright downhill more steeply, and rightagain to a footbridge. Crossing this we keep ahead on aheadland path to meet a farm track, then turn right and walk up toStainsby House farm where afingerpost directs us right. From the farmyard, we follow atrack, keeping ahead when it bendsright and passing through the edgeof a small wood. When we exit this, we head left, thenright to walk down to another footbridgeand find another track which heads forBag Enderby. At a cottage, a lane on theright leads to St Margaret’s church.Passing the church, the lane bends left- we keep forward along a farm track. This soon curves right and in half a milereaches a ford (and yet anotherfootbridge) with another ford, half a milefurther on.Just after this second ford, we take thewoodland path to our right. Walk roundthe wood’s inner edge and bear right tothe open fields beyond. Now, we turn left along a winding fieldedge path (latterly fenced) to a lane(Deep Lane.) Turning left for 300 yards there’s afootpath sign pointing leftwards uphill.Just left of the mill buildings we bearright onto an enclosed path, pastgardens and this brings us out, immediately opposite our starting point.
