< Previous10 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYIn a recent survey of over 55s, asubstantial 82 per cent of thosequestioned are spending more on homemaintenance as they see the cost oflooking after their home increasing. The survey, commissioned by luxuryretirement developer Arbor Living, questioned over 55s on their homemaintenance routine to develop anunderstanding of how much time andmoney the older generation spends onmaintaining a home.Over 55s are often still living in thefamily home where they brought up theirchildren even though they have sinceflown the nest and as such spend a greatdeal of time and money keeping thehouse in a good state of repair. Of those surveyed, 42 per cent areundertaking home maintenance tasks atleast once a month. The survey alsoshowed that 75 per cent are spending upto £50 a month on the cost ofmaintaining their property and 20 percent are spending up to £100 eachmonth. The survey also found that 40 per centsaid that taking care of homemaintenance tasks stopped them fromdoing something else they would ratherbe doing with their time.Arbor Living is the developer ofLakeshore – the high spec park homesdevelopment at Burton Waters in Lincoln.Lakeshore offers over 55s a smart lifestyleoption when they are looking todownsize and release equity in theirproperty. That lifestyle offers manythings but one is freedom fromtraditional home maintenance.“Lakeshore homes needalmost no regular maintenance, allowing its residents more timeto spend doing whatever theychoose. This can be aconsiderable time and financialgain for a homeowner who is used tohaving an ongoing commitmentmaintaining his or her home.“Our existing residents at Lakeshore tellus how easy their new home is to lookafter compared to their previous homeand that is echoed in the survey results. There is a new way to live withoutcompromise and that is in a luxury parkhome.”Lakeshore is currently under phaseddevelopment and when complete, the20-acre site will have a total of 64properties set within beautiful landscapedparkland around a lake and will offer 24hour gated security.72% of over 55s are spendingmore on home maintenancethan ever beforeFor more information, visit www.arborliving.co.uk,email lakeshore@arborliving.co.uk or call 01625 586 705.10_Layout 1 26/01/2017 12:45 Page 1www.larkfleethomes.co.ukPrices and information correct at time of going to print. From themoment you turn into the driveway ofthis fabulous property, you know thishome is one of a kind.Built from the ground up, with noexpense spared and having made winnerof the ‘Build in Excellence’ award forenergy efficiency this home also featuresa host of home automation - which took18 miles of cabling - which now operatesthe heating, lutron lighting, blinds, mediaand security to name but a few (orshould we say phew!). Current owners Martin and Nicola Keyare justifiably proud of their home andit’s easy to see why. No less than fivedouble bedrooms, all en suite, a livingkitchen of some 1,000 square feet, quartzflooring with underfloor heating, acinema/games room, gym and an indoorswimming pool as well as over an acre ofgrounds outside, this property takes yourbreath away. After purchasing the home from afootballer, you might be forgiven forthinking all this work had been done priorto the couple moving in, but nothingcould be further from the truth. Thecouple had bought the home for its sizeand its rather enviable position adjacentto Lincoln Golf Course rather than theprevious owners taste in interior décor, sowork began in earnest thereafter. As Martin explains, “We embarked on asix month refurbishment projectimmediately after buying it, we took theinside of the property back to bare brick, which of course meant removing allthe skirting, door frames, doors and eventhe plasterboard. We wanted to fit homeautomation anyway and the decor wasn’tto our choosing so this made more sensethan chasing the cables in and trying towork around the previous ownerschoices.” Martin confesses he hit a bit of a snagtwo months in, as the building firm he’dcontracted had done less than he’danticipated and met with him to explainthey weren’t going to be able to hit thesix month deadline. Concerned that theproject might be rushed or not hitdeadline, Martin decided to projectmanage the whole thing and organise allthe different trades needed himself. “To give you an impression of the scaleof the works, it took 35 tradesmen anA tranquilretreatThis month’s featured home is a unique property in adelightful position, adjacent to Lincoln Golf Course and scorestop marks for home automation and energy efficiency. A tranquilretreat12-15_Layout 1 26/01/2017 12:55 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY13HOMESentire 6 months, working 5 days a week,” heexplains. “But, the results far exceeded whatwe’d hoped and, arguably, what wecould’ve achieved with a main contractor.” In fact, executive homes don’t come muchclassier than this. Entering through electricallypowered gates we are greeted by a large areafor parking - sufficient to park multiple carscomfortably. Most striking of all is just howstunning the exterior is, but this is just a tasteof things to come. Stepping through the double oak doors, into an impressive reception hallwith beautiful quartz flooring, under whichunderfloor heating has been installed keepingthe whole area at optimum temperature, theproperty exudes luxury. Double glazedwindows to the hall add to that feeling whichadds to the feeling of space in this already14 Á12-15_Layout 1 26/01/2017 12:55 Page 214 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYHOMESgenerously proportioned area. From the hall, we step through to the livingroom with its granite tiled fireplace and doubleglazed bi-fold doors opening to the rear courtyard. The underfloor heating continues throughout onthe ground floor, so this room too is just aswelcoming, despite the severe winter chill factorexperienced at the time of our visit throughoutLincolnshire. Martin explains “Due to its construction, thehouse really is amazingly inexpensive to run - we’veeven got the heaters on in the pool to keep it ata constant 34 degrees and yet it’s still costs us onlya fraction over what our previous house cost whichwas less than half this size.” One of the couple’s favourite rooms is the familyliving kitchen, which they created by removing adividing wall, making it an expansive area wherethe whole family can gather and spend time. “Weoften have one of our three children or sometimesall three pedalling cars around here and there’s somuch room it’s not even as chaotic as that mightsound,” laughs Nicola. As one might expect the feeling of grandeurcontinues with granite worktops and shaker styleunits, integrated modern appliances, light beamingin from the windows overlooking the groundsoutside and a comfortable seating area by thewindow. The kitchen wants for nothing and one canimagine guests or family members chatting away12-15_Layout 1 26/01/2017 12:55 Page 3LINCOLNSHIRETODAY15HOMESover a coffee in there or enjoying mealstogether, informally. There’s so much to take your breathaway in this home: like the office/studywith a comprehensive range of fittedoffice furniture, the cloakroom with itsVictorian style vanity unit and secondhall/storage area with range of fittedstorage units. There’s even a utility roomwith more units and storage. But for me,the best room has to be the indoorswimming pool – just imagine, wakingin morning and not having to drive tothe gym or being able to hold poolparties in an evening - sheer bliss. “Whenwe moved I the pool had a liner, whichwe thought didn’t do the propertyjustice,” says Martin, “so we removedthat and had it tiled properly, which wefeel makes a heck of a difference.” The rooms keep revealing themselvesas we walk through: a walk in store,a hobby/games room, a rear hall, even asecond cloakroom.Back into the main hall, we can climbthe turned oak staircase to the light filledlanding, which gives access to the floorabove revealing a spacious seating areawith stunning views over the centralstaircase and landing. From here we explore the masterbedroom. Its luxurious fixtures andfittings and walk in dressing room andluxury en suite keep the upstairs verymuch in keeping with the theme we’dexperienced on the ground floor. No fewer than five bedrooms existalthough the couple have dedicated asixth to use as a gym. Another greatfeature on the upper floor is acinema/games room, anothergenerously proportioned room which isalso wired for TV and projector. Sadly, the time has come for thecouple to part with their beloved homeand it is currently on the market withLawrence James Residential for£1,050,000. It is, without doubt, aproperty perfect for a growing familywith space to safely explore the outsideworld. Alternatively, it’d prove a greatproperty for someone looking to workfrom home in an idyllic location wherethey can achieve that balance ofwork/home life. For further details contact: LawrenceJames Residential, Mercury House, FoxbyLane, Gainsborough.12-15_Layout 1 26/01/2017 12:55 Page 416 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYHOMESA personaltouch We’re not suggesting handing over your interiordesign to a child, but it might be worth taking a littleinspiration. A kid’s bedroom is the one place they cancall their own; a veritable expression of their personality. Some of us might still hold onto action fictions andother toys into adulthood, but most pick up new tastesand hobbies along the way. Yet the bedroom so oftenbecomes a stale space fit only for sleeping and gettingdressed. So why not make it a cornucopia of yourfavourite things? If clothes, make-up and glamour are your stock andtrade, why not indulge in a vanity table, or perhaps awalk-in wardrobe? Despite the minimalist digital age welive in, collecting commodities is thriving. Whatever thecollection, space is required to display it. Customisationis now king and modular furniture is becoming acommon fixture. There’s no rulebook to abide by, and while a unifyingtheme can be a springboard for style, a haphazardapproach is just as good. Creating a décor made up offurniture pieces and ornaments that catch your eye willcreate a personal space that you’ll want to use for morethan just a change of clothes or forty winks. 216-19_Layout 1 26/01/2017 13:06 Page 1HOMES1) Riletto Luxury Bed - Sustainable andsturdy – this solid wooden bed by Team 7 andavailable from Wharfside is a study in luxuryand healthy living. 2) Table Top Hollywood MirrorAesthetically pleasing as well as perfectlyfunctional, Illuminated Mirrors’ HollywoodMirror is the ultimate looking glass for thosewho want to add a touch of glitz to theirhome. 3) Flying DutchmanThe Flying Dutchman lamp from CrowdyHouse and designed by Jasmin Djerzic ishandmade from white resin with goldcoloured details of the filament lampimparting a touch of luxury. 4) Antique Cabin Antler Wall ClockThis antique wall clock from artfour iscomprised of elegant oak and richlydecorated with antlers from deer, wild boartusks and antelope horns.
