Think earlyMarilyn Monroe, The Artist and 1950’s pin up girls fused with amodern 21st century twist, and you’ll be along the right lines.“This season’s ‘statement hair’ isn’t for the faint hearted; hairshould look impeccably groomed, ultra-luxurious, and shine withhealth and vitality. Remember that versatility is key, so hairshould be cut so it can evolve from day to evening wear withease. Curls should be top of the styling stakes, so my kit bagessentials are definitely rollers and tongs.“Whether your hair is long or short, it should be styled withvolume, body and sophistication, giving the impression ofthickness, lusciousness and richness.”Short Hair – texture and versatility Short hair is all about texture and versatility. Cuts should bekept strong and bold, but left with some flexible styling ability, soshould incorporate longer layers which can be tonged, curled andformed into finger waves. Shorter hair looks fantastic styled witha long sweeping fringe, so if you are thinking of taking theplunge, ask your stylist to talk through the best options to suityour lifestyle and face shape.Get the look:After washing hair, apply serum through theends and blow-dry using a small pure bristle brush. Once dry, comb your hair into a deep side parting and begin to tongrandom pieces of hair to create body, style and movement. Styleyour hair off your face, and sweep your fringe over to theopposite side of your parting to finish.Mid-length Hair – body and bounceEffortless waves and curls are an absolute must-have to anyonesporting mid-length hair this spring/summer. Remember, tongsand rollers are your new best friends, so use them whereverpossible to frame your face and enhance your features. Mid-length hair should be kept slightly shorter this season, but integrate a stronger, flirtier finish. If you’re opting for ajaw length bob, ask your stylist to incorporate some layerswhich can be flicked out or scrunched to create textureand definition. Remember that the base line should bekept straight, so no more graduated bobs! Get the look:After washing your hair, spritz ‘RootBooster’ directly onto your roots and blow dry hair using apure bristle radial brush. Set in Velcro rollers for ten minutes tocreate movement and curls. Once removed, tong random sectionsof hair to enhance any curls and create a little Hollywoodglamour.LusciouslocksWant to look gorgeous, glamorous andwell-groomed this season? Get the look:After washing hair, spritz ‘Style Reviver’through the roots and mid-lengths before blow-drying using apure bristle radial brush, lifting the hair upwards as you dry tohelp create volume. Your final look shouldbe detailed and showcase creativity rather that lookeddishevelled and thrown together. Hair accessories should bereminiscent of old fashioned Hollywood; hair should beadored with beautiful pearl broaches, combs and pins tohighlight features and curves formed in the hair.Whatever your hair type, remember that you can lookglamorous if you opt for a style that suits your face, but stillenhances your natural beauty.Effortless waves andcurls are an absolutemust-have to anyonesporting mid-length hairthis spring/summer,according to RichardWard.52-53:Layout 1 16/3/12 09:39 Page 254 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYHEALTH & FITNESS54-55:Layout 1 19/3/12 10:00 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY55HEALTH & FITNESSIn the last two issues, our fat lossspecialist Marti Wycherley has focusedon the importance of correct nutritionand exercise for fat loss. This monthshe turns her attention to hydration. Now that you are a few weeks downthe line you should be reaping therewards with a sense of increased well-being, energy, better sleep quality, changes in body shape, less bloatingand hopefully a reduction on thescales. One simple habit to add into themix is drinking. How many times aday do you drink water? Do you oftenforget to drink? Is your daily fluidmainly made up of fruit juices, coffee, tea or fizzy pop? When your body does not haveenough water it will automaticallyhold onto what it can, from the foodyou eat and also prevent releasing asmuch fluid from the body in generalin a bid to keep hold to nourish thatcells that need it. Many of us are guilty of notdrinking enough, you know what it’slike, you get busy, usually from themoment your eyes are open and yourmind starts racing. Before you know ityou’ve had several cups of coffee andlittle else in the way of fluid for theday. So how much is the right amount?Simply put, drink little and oftenthroughout the day aiming for 2.5 to 3litres per day. This is approximatelyfive pints or ten medium size glasses. If you would like to know preciselythere is an easy way to work outexactly what you need and it ismultiplying your body weight in kg(2.2lb in 1kg) by 0.044. Water actually provides our bodywith energy, and just like if we were tostarve our bodies of food, which bythe way people can do quite easily byeating too much processed foods, oreating too little in the day. Withoutwater we will lack energy. This lack ofenergy makes getting through the daytougher, causes a decline in cognitivefunction, so you may feel fuzzy-headed or lack concentration atcertain times in the day, you may beirritable with people, feel apathetic orfeel like you need to eat. Hunger canbe a sign of dehydration, so be awarethat not drinking enough means youconsume more calories thinking youare hungry when in fact your bodywants fluid. Another important job of water isthat it helps to rid toxins from ourbodies. In a world where we aresurrounded by pollution, giving yourbody a helping hand in eliminatingthese toxins from your system doeswonders. Toxins can also hinderweight and fat loss so in hitting yourwater goal you’ll provide nourishmentto cells to support optimal brain/bodyfunction and help eliminate harmfultoxins too. If after reading, you know you arenot drinking enough, start to increaseyour fluid intake gradually over a fewdays. Avoid drinking your water goalall in one go. Aside from being able tofeel the water slushing around in yourstomach, you’ll spend much of thenext few hours dashing to the toilet asyour body will not know what to dowith the influx. Give your body timeto adapt over a few days, and add inan extra glass each day, until you areat your water goal or alternatively aimfor 2.5 to 3 litres per day.The health plan so far1. Eat whole food and avoid processedjunk, if you can’t grow it, catch it, andkill it don’t eat it as routine. If you musteat processed food, save it for a treat, you’ll enjoy it more, less harm will bedone and you will remain in control ofyour weight.2. Plan your meals and aim for four tofive smaller meals a day. This keeps asteady flow of energy hitting yoursystem and your body can absorb morenutrients this way, rather than eatingthree larger meals.3. Get active. Work with weights foroptimal body composition. Drink it inAre you getting enough water? 54-55:Layout 1 19/3/12 10:00 Page 256 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYWEDDINGS - BRIDALWEARDisney Fairy Tale Weddings by Alfred AngeloThe 2012 collection of Disney Fairy Tale Wedding gownsby Alfred Angelo features eight fashion-forward weddingdress styles inspired by Disney Princess characters, guaranteed to add a touch of magic to your special day.Prices range from £725 to £1,345 for wedding gowns.Style shown is Sleeping Beauty.
