It’s been calledtraditional in a contemporary mannerand I think that’s a good appraisal.“These days I am actually lookingfurther back for influences, I’m a big fanof Turner, but I’ve been looking to whatinfluenced him back then, so I’ve turnedto artists like Rembrandt. Thisactually coincided with me watching adocumentary on Turner where thejournalist said his work had ‘silent drama’which I thought was a nice coincidenceat the time. “Some people have told me that Icould be the new Turner, which isfantastic, but it’s difficult to knowwhether to play that down or let peoplespread that comparison. Tests have shown that the number ofgood bugs and fauna is especially high for a British river. Byimproving the flow of the river, these amazing creatures –particularly the native crayfish and wild trout – benefit from agreatly improved habitat. The river has been dug where the gardens think the flowwill go and the edge has been lined with bundles of coppicedhazel. On top, soil and vegetation bind it all together andcreate a barrier that stops the river becoming one big reedbed.Add to this the activities happening over the next fewmonths, including the chance to soak up the sun in thenewly-installed Meadow Retreat, which serves as a semi-private base for the day.
