Recently built by its owners, Matt and Victoria have lived at the contemporary property for six years, trusting local architect, Paul Sharman, who Matt has known since he was a baby, to provide them with the ideal home. Constructed with quality materials with low maintenance in mind, the house is also designed to be flooded with natural light and present free flowing spaces. Placed in the market town of Crowland, the couple chose this spot for their home due to its privacy, peacefulness, and far- reaching views across the fenland landscape, with the 12 Á 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 21/03/2022 14:01 Page 212 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HOMES spectacular sunsets and sky now beloved. It is an area perfect for walking or hacking, with a track at the end of the lane continuing for miles without coming into contact with any traffic. Approaching the property there is plenty of space for off road parking on the gravel drive, and an automatic sliding gate gives way to the home. The ground floor, with its streamlined look, offers a large open plan living, dining, kitchen space with air conditioning and underfloor heating below the tiled flooring, as well as a wall of sliding glass windows - truly opening up the house to nature. A wide modern log-burner sits in a simple recessed fireplace, a cosy setting to lounge, just as another is fitted in the covered area linked with the rear terrace, also reached via sliding glazing in one corner. The bespoke, contemporary PKB kitchen draws you in with the kitchen peninsular at an appealing angle, begging you to start cooking. There are wrapround Corian worktops, plenty of sleek, matt, handle-less drawers and cupboards presenting a clean, smooth look. Neff and AEG integrated appliances include an induction hob, an eye-level double oven, a fridge freezer and a dishwasher, while there is a Quooker hot water tap, and a quiet extractor is fitted into the ceiling. A water softener is built- in, and hot water is on a loop circuit for instantaneous heat. The open plan area 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 21/03/2022 14:01 Page 3LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 13 HOMES also hosts a cantilevered staircase which has open timber treads that mimic the rustic strips of tiling on the wall, and the balustrade has a brushed steel rail with tensioned wires. The staircase is a feature worth marvelling itself. Moreover, the ground floor holds rooms currently being used as a gym and an office, with the former of these easily converted into a bedroom as it sits next door to a WC. Additionally there are two useful utility rooms including a boot room with cupboards and sink, and a spot perfect for the owners’ dog. Upstairs, fitted with carpet, there are four double bedrooms, all with storage, either walk-in or fitted, and three of which have en suites. The master hosts a huge dressing room, an en suite featuring twin basins, and a Juliette balcony with views across the garden and fields to the west. There is also the family bathroom on the first floor with a bath (with television over) and a separate shower. All the bathrooms are fully tiled and have double-sized, walk-in showers. A further utility room can be found too with space for a washing machine and dryer. Outside of the property, at the rear, an expansive terrace spans the width of the house, allowing you to bask in the sun from around 11 in the morning until it goes down. Entirely enclosed by post and rail fencing with a young beech 14 Á 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 21/03/2022 14:01 Page 414 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HOMES hedge down one side, and a gate into the paddock at the far end, ideal for grazing horses, the garden is tranquil and private as there are no direct neighbours. While it welcomes hares, deer, pheasants and a plethora of other birds, the garden remains great for families; a children’s play area has a practical base of rubber chippings, near which is a pit for a small, ground-level trampoline, and there is lots of lawn to play on. Alternatively this could act as a blank canvas for a keen gardener. Separate to the house, a new barn has been built, entered through its own gateway onto a large gravel drive which provides access into the paddock behind. Matt said that in constructing the barn, the couple wanted to ensure it blended in with the countryside but was high quality like the house and complementary to it. Offering a vast amount of space, the main area within the black, feather-edged, pressure- treated, Nordic pine clad building is almost 20 metres long and over 11 metres wide. A section inside is divided and two doorways have automatic, sectional, roller doors. A double garage or large storeroom, also with automatic doors, adjoins this. This is in addition to the double and single garages connected to the home, clad in Western Red Cedar. Lawnwood is now on the market with Fine & Country at £1.3m. 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 21/03/2022 14:01 Page 5A S LOCAL AS IT GETS! H aving grown up with a love for art that was further nurtured in London, Neil Dawson has forged a successful career based both in the city, and about cities in general. Having fallen in love with the buzz of the streets and the reflection of car headlights on wet tarmac, Neil’s art captures the busy energy of London, and also of other cities around the world. Taking inspiration from newspapers, images, and television shows and reports, Neil captures the culture and feel of cities from across the world, transporting them into a single frame of art that shows the hustle and bustle, the neon life and busy energy, and sometimes even the quieter and more scenic moments of city life. skylines City 16-17.qxp_Layout 1 21/03/2022 14:02 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 17 ARTISTIC LINCOLNSHIRE THE LITTLE RED GALLERY Love art? A garden spring clean will help keep your garden healthy and ready for the warm summer months. Perennials can be pruned now if you did not do so already in the autumn. Pruning triggers new growth and makes sure the plant grows healthy. Depending on when the plant blooms, you will have to wait until after flowering to prune out the old growth. Early blooming shrubs will need to be pruned after blooming in spring, otherwise you may accidentally damage the buds. If you added some mulch to your garden to protect frost-sensitive plants, then now is a good time to remove it. You can also remove and compost any dead annuals that remain in your garden. They will not return for another season. The self-seeders will have already done their task and can be thrown away. Weeds also need to be removed before they get a chance to establish themselves. Also, they are easier to pull out now while the ground is damper and before it becomes drier as the summer starts. If you have a vegetable patch, then you will want to think about planting a crop of potatoes and you can sow beetroots, carrots, cauliflower, radish, leeks, peas, spinach, spring onions and lettuce. Many potted fruit trees can also be planted in April. As Ed Fuller from Fullers Landscaping illustrates, spring cleaning is not just for the house. © stock.adobe.com/ manuta Spring cleaning your GARDEN GARDEN Spring cleaning your 18-19.qxp_Layout 1 21/03/2022 14:04 Page 1* Keep weeds under control. * Mow your lawn (lowering the blades gradually). * Dig in a layer of compost into your beds. * Deadhead daffodils but leave the foliage intact allowing it to die back naturally, so they will bloom again next year. * Sow hardy annuals and herb seeds. * Feed hungry shrubs and roses. * Keep bird baths and bird feeders topped up to encourage birds to your garden. * Plant out perennials in groups of three, five or seven. * Protect fruit blossom from late frosts. * Divide bamboos and waterlilies. * Keep feeding the birds. They will be emerging from hibernation and putting a shallow dish of water and wet meat-based cat or dog food in your garden will help. Do not put out milk or bread as hedgehogs are lactose intolerant and bread is low in energy. Avoid chemicals and slug pellets if you can as hedgehogs naturally feed on slugs, snails, worms, and caterpillars.
