This month we celebrate all things coastal; after allthe people living near the sea have had to endure a lot over thewinter, what with the fear of crashing waves engulfing their homesand sand dunes filling their gardens every time the wind blows. We felt it only fitting therefore to look at the many positives of ourcoastal towns. How they have managed to reinvent themselves inrecent years, taking the best traditions of the past and moving withthe times. These quintessential seaside resorts have much more tooffer these days than just a break on the sand, arcades and fun parks – althoughshould the mood take you while you’re there it’d be rude not to indulge, if only toconjure up images of those childhood days! I also commend readers to our homes supplement in which you will findinspiration for almost every room in the house – although you might want to tacklethem one at a time! Similarly, fashionistas will just loooove our fashion pages, and for those looking tobuff up we’ve an interesting new contributor helping us to focus on doing just that.however, if you’re like me and hate the gym, then you might prefer to takeadvantage of yet another Lincolnshire walk and enjoy the countryside with all it hasto offer…Last, but by no means least, as some readers may already know, there has longbeen a move to build a Memorial to the 25,611 Bomber Command Aircrew, aslisted in the Rolls of Honour held in Lincoln Cathedral. Lincolnshire had no fewerthan 27 Bomber Command stations and many who lost their lives in World War IIhailed from this county. As such, we feel privileged to be able to bring news on howthe efforts and sacrifices of all involved are to be honoured. All this and much more in our May issue and we hope readers will enjoy our latestissue as much as we’ve enjoyed compiling it…Good reading, as always,Steve FisherEditorLincolnshireToday@lincstodaylincolnshiretoday.netEditor:Steve FisherJournalists:Steve Williams, Mike Shields, Michael Fisher, Stuart PearceySales Director: Teri CooperSales Manager: Angela CooperSales: Marie RuddAccounts: Angela Sharman,John DownesCirculations: Dawn CookDesign & Production: Gary Jorgensen,Mark Casson, Rachel GreenAdvertising: Tel: (01472) 310302, Fax: (01472) 310312 Editorial:Tel: (01472) 310305, Fax: (01472) 310317Part Of The Business Link MagazineGroup: Armstrong House, Armstrong Street,Grimsby,N E Lincs DN31 2QEEmail: lincs-today@blmgroup.co.uk Website: www.lincolnshiretoday.net ISSN No: 1366-1299© All rights reserved. The team has worked so hardin the last few weeks and this result is a real team effort. It’sfrustrating that qualifying got cancelled as, based on my paceon old tyres in free practice, we had the pace for a front rowqualifying result. However I made some good overtaking movesduring the race to finish in third place so I’m pretty happy withthe way the weekend went.“We now turn our attention to the next race at Long Beach. Wewill be aiming for a strong qualifying result so that we can look toconvert it into another podium finish and move further up theChampionship standings.”LATEST NEWSWork under wayon £550,000 artificialpitch in LincolnWork has officially kickedoff on a new 3G artificialgrass pitch at The PrioryCity of Lincoln Academy. The floodlit facility wasmade possible thanks to a£250,000 grant awarded bythe Premier League and TheFA Facilities Fund, a figurethat was matched andtopped up by The PrioryFederation of Academies Trust. I am of course referring to the latest expensesscandal and subsequent resignation of MariaMiller - just one example in a string of cases thatundermine our trust in MPs generally. If young people like myself are to put trustinto Parliament, we need to know that MPs canbe trusted. How can we have a system whereMPs overrule the independent parliamentarycommissioner and decide their own fines? It’sabsolutely ridiculous and needs to be changed –in fact I honestly don’t know why they don’t bansuch politicians from sitting in office for alifetime? Maybe there’s an MP or party member whoreads your magazine who can throw light onthis? K BarnardLincolnReaders’lettersWe’d love to hear from you. I was particularly intrigued to learn that part of the latest round of£20 million government funding to help businesses in the region hasbeen awarded to Lincolnshire’s Chamber of Commerce in the form of£20 million. The way the Chamber and the Federation of Small Businesses, together with the Lincolnshire LEP and the Lincolnshire CountyCouncil have all pulled together is a clear demonstration of what canbe achieved when the many parties pull together in a single direction. Since the recession we know that county firms have found it difficultto access finance for capital expenditure through conventional methods. I just hope the funds will be put to good use as there are so manycompanies that have great growth potential, yet still don’t have thefinancial support from banks to have been able to capitalise on it.L RiggallScunthorpePICKOF THEMONTH008:Layout 1 11/4/14 10:17 Page 1Serious about health.
