Slapping on thesame old moisturiser that saw you through winter will leave your face looking greasy. So switch out that heavy moisturiser for something lighter, and be sure to armyourself with a good exfoliator. Just remember less is more, so don’t go rubbing yourface raw.Your skin might need a little help in getting that sun-kissed glow. Most us will still bewalking around with our winter skin, so investing in a decent bronzer is definitely agood idea. You could always top yourself up with a trip to the tanning salon. Here’swhere an exfoliator comes into its own, as it can scrub away that dead skin and keep afake tan looking fresher for longer. The important thing to remember is protecting yourself against the sun, so be sure thatwhichever moisturiser you decide on also promises UV protection. The same also goes forlips. There are plenty of balms that boast sun protection, so be sure and find one. One ingredient you’ll want to look out for this season is aloe vera, a famed anti-inflammatory that’s more popular now than ever. It’s especially beneficial for soothing skinafter time spent in the sun and for easing the effects of too much time spent tanning. Trustus, your skin will love you for it. When it comes to applying make-up, do yourself a favour and switch from your staplefoundation to something with a bit more pizzazz. There’s no good working on that tan tocover it under a pale foundation. Also, it’s best to invest in waterproof make-up, as sweatand time spent on the beach will only make your face run. With spring and summer fashions, the emphasis is always on bare skin, from getting thosearms and legs out, to rocking a plunging neckline. Then there’s slipping into your bikini orswimming cossie. No doubt hair removal will be on your mind. While there are plenty ofhome options, you might get better results with a professional. Or, if you want to and youfeel comfortable, be all natural. It’s your body, after all. It’s not just your skin that the sun can ravage, with your hair just as vulnerable. Butfear not, there’s an assortment of UV styling sprays that you can set aside for just suchoccasions. One of the benefits of taking a dip in the sea is that the salt water willgive your hair those gorgeous waves you can only seem to get at the beach. If youwant to replicate this look at home, pick up a salt spray specially formulated forhair. All those styling products can end up damaging hair, so go easy. Tocounteract those effects, try using a mineral and vitamin enriched shampoo. For even more luxurious hair, opt for a gentler shampoo as this will leavesome of those natural oils behind. Don’t forget to keep hydrated. While there are plenty of products thatpromise to hydrate your skin, we’re actually talking about drinking water.Get yourself a BPA-free bottle and keep it topped up. Drinking plenty offluids is one of the best things you can do for your beauty regime and, best of all, it’s totally free. Sun kissedWhether you want to get beach-ready, get that sun-kissed glowor just want to have a fabulous head of hair, Lincolnshire Todayhas got the style advice for you. 46-47.qxp_Layout 1 18/04/2018 09:49 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY47HAIR & BEAUTY© Shutterstock / Mizin Roman 46-47.qxp_Layout 1 18/04/2018 09:49 Page 248 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYHEALTH & FITNESSLincolnshire is a gift-wrapped paradise to dog-walkersand ramblers, with its stunning parks, waterways and, ofcourse, the Wolds. No doubt that with the longer daysand warmer weather, walkers will be out in droves. Butnow that outdoor activities can once again be enjoyedwithout fear of snow or freezing rain, it’s time to take upsomething different. For land-lubbers, there are plenty of other options.Though most of us will have kicked a ball about atschool, it’s a sad fact that not enough adults are playingsport. The health benefits should more than speak forthemselves, but the social aspect tends to getoverlooked. Playing together in a team can do wondersfor mental health and wellbeing, offering a sense ofpurpose and camaraderie. Though football and rugbymight be the first sports to spring to mind, yellowbelliesare fond of cricket, with most towns and villages worththeir salt boasting a team. This most quintessential of British sports is a favouritepast time, and a great way to bring communitiestogether. And surely it’s better than spending anotherSunday afternoon inside, whiling away the hourswatching TV. As well as the exercise enjoyed by gettingthose runs in, the benefit of just being outside in thefresh air can do wonders for health and vitality. You’llfeel brand new in no time.Horse riding is another popular past time here inLincolnshire, due in no small part to the vast open spaceand major agriculture here. Staying on horseback is byno means an easy feat, and requires a good reserve ofstamina. Horseback riding improves leg strength, toningthose lower muscles and improving overall fitness. Foran added workout, you can even much out the horse’sstall yourself. So while the sun is shining, try and take up a newoutdoor activity. It might be that you don’t enjoyexercise, or you just haven’t found the right one for youyet.
