She said: “When I bought the property it was two flats. I completely renovated it, taking the floors up for damp proof, putting on a new roof, adding a kitchen extension and more. Stepping into the south-facing property, which is decorated to perfection and bathed in light thanks to large Georgian windows, one will begin in the entrance hall, which is flanked by two reception rooms, one of which hosts timber varnished floors and an open fireplace with a concrete and slate half wooden mantle, while the other has an electric log burner and fitted storage. Continuing through the home, the kitchen diner is next. This is Gilly’s favourite room and the house’s centrepiece. “It has amazing views and doors that open out onto the garden. It’s where we live a lot of the time, but it also has the snug to one side of it which is open plan where you can sit and watch the television,” Gilly said. The bright room features a tiled floor, extensive fitted units with appliances including an American style fridge freezer, a twin smeg oven, seven ring gas burner, extractor fan, fitted dishwasher, stainless steel sink, chrome mixer taps, as well as dual aspect casement windows and bi-fold doors which lead to a terrace. A utility room is connected with a Belfast sink, fitted storage and cupboard containing a washer dryer, alongside a WC. The pristine property also has a cellar. Travelling up to the first floor, one will discover two bedrooms. This includes the master, which has an open Victorian fireplace with a timber mantle and an ensuite bathroom with a tiled floor, chrome heated towel rail, his and hers porcelain sinks with mixer taps, low level WC, and bath with chrome mixer taps and shower head attachment. The master also holds a dressing room. Ascending to the third floor another two bedrooms, both of which host fitted wardrobes, await. There is also a shower room with 10-14.qxp_Layout 1 26/04/2021 08:26 Page 3LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 13 tiled floor and walls, a chrome heated towel rail, mirrored splash back, contemporary wash hand basin and vanity unit, and walk-in mains shower. Moving outside, the property offers a variety of spaces across different levels, including an office and storage areas. Gilly explained: “There’s the big terrace outside the kitchen where you can have lunch and a drink in the evenings, and then we have the lower terrace which is private and really nice for coffee. Then at the top there is the roof terrace which is warm all year round and very private. When it’s hot 14 Á 10-14.qxp_Layout 1 26/04/2021 08:26 Page 414 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HOMES you can sunbathe up there or have a nice cold drink. We also like to sit out there at night. It’s another area where you can really enjoy the views the property has to offer across Lincoln. When there are no leaves on the trees in the autumn you can see the Cathedral and the old Medieval Bishops’ Palace.” The home also has, rather unusually for the area, a garage. Gilly said: “They are a bit like gold dust up here, with waiting lists for garages.” Despite her meticulous work to make the property what it is today, Gilly is now selling the home after deciding to move to North Lincolnshire. The house is on the market with Mount and Minster at a guide price of £650,000. 10-14.qxp_Layout 1 26/04/2021 08:26 Page 5ORDER FORM Yes, I would like to subscribe to Lincolnshire Today magazine for the next 12 months, with the first 3 issues only being £1. Needless to say, she was encouraged from a tender age to pursue her love of drawing and painting. This self-discovery continued right throughout her life as she learned her craft by doing, rather than taking part in any formal art education. Using acrylics and inks, she captures the bucolic beauty of the Somerset countryside. Of course, we’d say that Lincolnshire is the nation’s best county, but we’re not blind to the serene appeal of all 16 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY ARTISTIC LINCOLNSHIRE flowers This month, we take a closer look at the fabulously floral works of self- taught artist, Jane Morgan. Falling in love with parts of this green and pleasant land. There’s no denying the stunning scenes found in and around Somerset that Jane has so expertly captured. It’s a setting that she’s intimately acquainted with, having lived there for more than thirty years, raising four children with her husband. Despite always drawing and painting, it was only about three years ago when Jane began to paint seriously. Once the children moved out, she finally had space for a home studio. Now, with a place to hone her craft, her works have resonated with people all around the globe. She’s sold prints 16-17.qxp_Layout 1 26/04/2021 08:29 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 17 ARTISTIC LINCOLNSHIRE and originals throughout the UK and Europe and as far afield as the USA and Hong Kong. It’s easy to see why. Her works make one feel immediately at ease and spark warm feelings, making them a balm in these trouble times. “I lose myself when I am painting, completely absorbed in my happy bubble, enjoying the colours and shapes forming on my canvas. It is that uplifting feeling I want to capture and share, to bring a smile to your face and light up your home,” says Jane. With a predominantly chill and windy spring, we can only hope that the summer to come will be long and hot. For the first part of the sunny season, at least, many social restrictions will remain in place, so we’ll all be spending plenty of time in the garden. For readers with conservatories, it’s easy to prop the doors open and have the patio or decking be an extension of the house – whether that’s for reading, relaxing or entertaining friends and family. But there’s plenty of great ways to bring the outside in and vice versa. Buying furniture and ornaments that can work in both environments is a great idea especially where tables and chairs are concerned. Not only can you then use them all year round, but it will help to break down the boundaries that we put up between our homes and the garden. After all, you feel at home in your garden, don’t you? By the same line of thinking, you should bring the garden in, adding potted plants and flowers all over your home. Your wellbeing will thank you for it.
