A question I’m asked a lot is “How much should I spend?” My advice is always to buy the best range you can afford, but more importantly find what works for you. We often take recommendations from friends and family to find what works. Yet many people I know have drawers full of products they just didn’t get on with. Why? Skincare is not a one-size-fits all solution, it’s bespoke, what works for you may change depending on your lifestyle, health and diet. I know, it’s so confusing! So, what are the steps to take to make sure you meet your perfect skincare match? Match your products to your skin type The best way to see what skin type you have is to have a product-free morning: by lunch time see how if looks & feels. Oily Producing more oil than necessary. Visible shine on all areas, congestion (bumps under the skin) & breakouts (spots) and enlarged pores. The correct skincare will minimise shine, control the amount of natural oil that is produced, deep cleanse to control breakout and promote skin healing Combination Oily in the t-zone (forehead, nose and chin) but normal on the cheeks. The correct skincare will treat both areas to provide greater balance. Normal Smooth to touch, even colour, no blemishes and minimal shine. The correct skincare will maintain a normal skin to minimise ageing effects. Dry Produces less oil than needed, feels tight without moisturise and may have a rough texture. The correct skincare will nourish and provide lipids to the skin to repair and restore while providing protection. SKINCOUTURE luxurious beauty therapies contours. The correct skincare will support skin tissue to help lift contours, smooth fine lines and improve cell turnover to produce healthy new cells. Sensitive Prone to high colour when touched or when hot. Reacts easily to products and sun exposure. The correct skincare will strengthen skins natural defence, soothe and provide protection. Get with the programme Once you’ve decided on your product it’s now time to put them to good use – they don’t work if they are left in the cupboard! Skin responds well to a day and evening routine. A healthy skin routine typically consists of: Cleanser Removes make up and impurities your skin may have picked up through the day or evening. These can be in the form of a cream, lotion, foam, gel or oil. The texture is personal preference. Maybe you like to use cotton wool to remove or maybe you like to wash off. Toner Many people overlook a toner, but they perform a viral role in skin health, that is to immediately rebalance the skin’s pH after cleansing, leaving if fully defensive against bacteria. They are cost effective as you only need a little each use, so they last for a long time. Serum This is the miracle worker. If you don’t use one – add it today! Serum is a concentrated mixture of ingredients that feed your skin so choose one to meet your primary concerns. Remember the magic will evaporate without a moisturiser on top to lock it in so don’t wear it alone. Moisturiser The workhorse of your routine this will deliver ingredients to balance your skin as well as providing protection from water loss. Water loss can result from artificially heated or air-conditioned environments, overexposure to the sun or as a side effect of medication causing skins to become dehydrated and show signs of ageing prematurely. Eyecare The skin around eye is much thinner than the rest of the face and body so it needs a unique formula and a tiny amount of product in the area (grain of rice size should do BOTH eyes). With eyes less is more. A little product daily is better than trying to make up for lost time by applying half a tube: that usually results in puffiness due to over saturating the skin. Remember it’s a small bottle because you use less. ©Shutterstock / Pixel-Shot 46-47.qxp_Layout 1 22/05/2019 11:06 Page 248 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY Main Street, Belchford, Horncastle Bookings 01507 533602 www.bluebellbelchford.co.uk Now open seven days a week, Monday to Saturday 11.30am to 2.30pm and 6.30pm to 11pm, Sunday noon to 10.30pm. With warmer days and longer nights, we take a look at some wonderful recipes to help you cool down on a hot summer’s day. CHICKEN SHASHLIK SALAD © Shutterstock / Valeria Aksakova Whether you’re barbecuing or grilling, this Greek inspired dish is a real crowd pleaser. Tasty succulent chicken pieces with fresh butterhead lettuce, ripe tomatoes and avocado, this dish will transport you to the Mediterranean. Serves: 4 Preparation time: 25 minutes Cooking time: 15 minutes You’ll need: 4 chicken breasts cut into bite sized chunks 8 small shallots, peeled and halved (or quartered if they are large) 2tbsp olive oil 4tsp honey 1tsp cumin 2 garlic cloves crushed 1 butterhead lettuce, shredded 1 avocado 1⁄ 2 cucumber 12 cherry tomatoes 1⁄ 2 lemon 4 flatbreads or large wraps What to do: Put the chicken chunks and shallots into a bowl and drizzle with half the oil, honey, cumin and garlic. Toss well and leave to marinate for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, if you’re using wooden kebab sticks soak them in water and light the BBQ. Shred the lettuce, slice the avocado and cucumber and halve the tomatoes. Make the dressing by combining the lemon juice with the remaining oil and season. Thread the meat and shallots onto 8 kebab sticks and when the BBQ is ready to use, cook them for 10-15 minutes turning frequently. When the chicken is almost cooked, heat the flatbreads on both sides on the BBQ. To serve toss the salad in the dressing then pile on top of the flatbreads and top with 2 kebabs. Give the kebabs and extra squeeze of lemon juice and serve. Note: If it’s not barbeque weather the kebabs can be cooked on a griddle or in a frying pan or grilled. 48-52.qxp_Layout 1 22/05/2019 10:33 Page 2Next >
