WOW is a brilliant blush type powder for roots which does not run. They do a great blonde and it has a smaller brush you can brush highlights into the roots. To pick up your own, try Amazon and lookfantastic.com. Elsewhere, there are some easy tips to keep your hair healthy. Lay off the hairdryer and heated appliances etc. to give your hair time to repair. Hair masks are also a great way to give your locks some TLC especially for those suffering with hair loss. If you think your hair is thinning start to add biotin into your diet. Biotin is a vitamin that belongs to the ‘B complex vitamins’ group. It’s also sometimes referred to as vitamin H. Like other B vitamins, biotin helps your body to convert food into energy. Having healthy amounts of biotin is associated with having glossy hair, glowing skin, and sturdy nails. Foods that contain high amounts of biotin include nuts and legumes. It can also be found in soybeans, peanuts, green beans, walnuts and pecans. Grabbing a handful of almonds as a snack will give you protein and vitamin E in addition to a biotin boost. You can also find it in the tablet form – 1,000 mg one a day are the best. There are a few simple steps you can take to ensure stronger hair. One of the best ways is to leave a healing oil in overnight. Castor oil would be my pick, but even olive oil will do the trick. Remember to use shampoo before wetting your hair afterwards. This will break any surface tension and stop the hair feeling greasy. Rinse your hair in cold water at the very end this will leave a shine. Regardless of your haircare routine, it’s important to let your locks have some rest and respite. For long hair, change the position of your hair bobble, or try plaits or braids or different partings to give your hair restorative time. You can also try putting a sock in the braid for a soft wider looking wave. There’s plenty of advice to be found on Pinterest, YouTube or TikTok for curling and braiding hair with socks. One that I love is to dampen your hair before bed, use a clip at the top of your head and wrap or criss-cross the sock into the hair. Voila soft or bouncy curls depending on how tightly you want the look. Practice a little, it takes time to find out how you like it. Some of us have plenty of time on our hands, but for key workers, time is stretched thin. That’s what’s great about this method – it only needs ten minutes or so before bed, doesn’t require any product, and it means less time using heated appliances and the damage that goes with it. It doesn’t matter if you wash it out in the morning. While we’re on the subject of bed head… those of you who are sewing already, why not make silk pillowcases? Silk pillowcases keep your hair safe from harm, preventing matting, breakage, tangling and snagging. You will wake up each morning with healthy skin and beautiful hair. They create a smooth surface for your hair and skin to glide over, and with less friction there will be less creases on your skin and less frizz in your hair. As salons are closed, maintaining your hair colour can be quite tricky at present. But fear not, there’s some tried and tested tips to keep your locks looking lustrous and radiant at home. Wella Colour Fresh is great for covering the roots up to twenty washes (or ten on grey roots). It’s semi- permanent, so it won’t interfere with future colours. For others it will refresh or tone out brassy blondes. Watch YouTube videos to get house quarantine partners to help apply your roots with Wella’s Colour Fresh or your favourite semi-permanent, as it won’t compromise your future colour at the hairdressers. Get your house partner to do this for you only do the front sides too and crown so it’s less complicated to start with. Let’s face it, that’s all you can see when you’re FaceTiming or using Skype or Zoom, so just apply to the roots not the ends. Just go one shade lighter if from a store or it will go orange yellow. Another simple tip to deal with roots is to cover them up with a wide soft hair band. At a time where we’re video calling more than ever, it’s worth remembering that roots look really bad to your eye, but others don’t notice them the same. They’re just so pleased to see you and the interaction. 38-39.qxp_Layout 1 29/05/2020 16:22 Page 2Next >
