< Previous70 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY COUNTY MOTORING Association (NFDA), said that the news was “vital” for the industry. “The NFDA has worked closely with SMMT to produce guidelines for retailers in line with the Government’s recommendations. Retailers have been working hard to put all necessary measures in place to ensure social distancing can be observed,” she said. “Following our lobbying efforts where we highlighted it was vital to include dealerships in the first wave of non- essential retail reopening, it is positive that the Prime Minister has confirmed the Government intends to reopen car showrooms from 1 June. “As lockdown measures start to ease, many of us will need cars to get back to work and it is crucial that automotive retailers are open to serve the workforce. The retail automotive sector looks forward to welcoming customers back into showrooms.” Although the lockdown is easing, things are unlikely to return to the status quo seen before the outbreak. The same is true for the motor industry, where the pandemic is expected to change how cars are sold at dealerships. Car sales may have been down to twenty-year lows over the last few months, but they haven’t dropped to nil. Many of the cars that have been sold have done so online and iVendi, a vehicle retailing and finance solution, says it expects there to a be a “step change” in online motor retail. James Tew, the Chief Executive of iVendi, said a shift away from showroom- based interaction seems inevitable in the medium-term at least. Indeed, the company said it has already seen a recent uptick in interest from dealers who want to upgrade their online presence. “The showroom-based retail model has persisted in the motor industry for much longer than almost any other sector but, for the medium term at least, that picture is likely to change and perhaps substantially,” said Mr Tew. “Even if the government allows dealers to reopen their doors in June, consumers are likely to remain wary about utilising showrooms in numbers for the foreseeable future and, in truth, a socially distanced premises may just not be much fun to visit. “There is every reason to believe that click-and-collect and home delivery will be the dominant methods of trading as we emerge from lockdown, and that showrooms will become more like fulfilment centres where vehicles are processed. There will be some face-to- face vehicle retail, but it will probably be relatively limited. “We believe that conditions are going to be difficult over the coming months and probably years in the motor industry but also, for us, this is a moment when we can prove exactly how well online processes work when it comes to selling vehicles.” Like other areas of the economy, the motoring industry will endure, but it will look and operate in a much different way than before the lockdown. © Shutterstock /LightField Studios 68-70.qxp_Layout 1 29/05/2020 16:36 Page 3ORDER FORM Yes, I would like to subscribe to Lincolnshire Today magazine for the next 12 months, with the first 3 issues only being £1. If you are in love with someone wonderful yet still besieged with self-doubt and confidence issues, then it’s time to get a grip and realise that you are together for a reason and that you deserved to be loved. Taurus Apr 21 - May 21 You are at your best with a spring in your step and a good positive attitude, determined that nothing is going to stand in your way or spoil your fun. However, growing concerns over a particular personal relationship is pushing your patience to the limits. Perhaps you are overreacting and feeling a little jealous or threatened? Gemini May 22 - June 21 Your career could be at the point of ‘take off’, but this will mean growing demands upon your time will either have you racing around the countryside or tied to your phone and the office desk. Financial rewards and recognition will give you the added incentive needed to function at an even more dynamic pace. Cancer Jun 22 - Jul 23 As a born organiser with a sharp-witted mind, everyone imagines you are available exclusively for them, so you are going to have your hands full trying to juggle all the balls in the air. If you are planning home improvements or a house move, now is the perfect time to focus on making your dreams a reality. Leo Jul 24 - Aug 23 Travel plans boost your spirits, as you will have a goal to aim for and the promise of a much- needed break. What may irritate you is being forced to spend time in the company of a few narrow-minded individuals who are stuck in their ways and reluctant to embrace change and new ideas. Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23 Friends and neighbours are heading for your door because when you are at your very best, you are a social magnet. Not everyone enjoys your sense of fun and love of life and will try to dampen your spirits. If this is the case, remove yourself immediately because this situation is not good for you. Libra Sep 24 - Oct 23 Are you taking on board too much to please others? Perhaps you are being taken for granted and now that you have seen through all the game playing and manipulation, little wonder you are planning an escape route. A close friendship may begin to develop into something more romantic and meaningful. Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22 A long-standing friendship with someone you have developed an understanding with shows signs of going up a gear, albeit very slowly and at a pace that allows you to feel in total control of your life. Finances look all set to improve and the time could be right to make some wise investments for the future. Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21 Work diligently and systematically at completing projects and tying up loose ends before moving onto the next new project. Ensure loans, overdrafts and other outstanding bills are paid on time and don’t be tempted to borrow too much money if it isn’t necessary. It’s your life, so follow your heart and do what feels right for you. You will receive help and advice that will be worth its weight in gold, especially if you are interested in furthering your career or starting a new business venture. Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19 Refuse to mingle with people who are neither on your intellectual level nor on your spiritual wavelength. Learn to recognise who your true friends are and be content to stick with them. A new job or career change introduces you to situations that will feed your mind with interesting new ideas and opportunities for self-development. Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20 Realise that everything has to run its course and that there were important lessons and messages you had to learn from your experiences in order to proceed to the next stage of your life. A change of direction in your career life will result in you either retiring for good or investing money in a brand new area that promises rich rewards. In this special edition of By the Watercooler, we bring you three stories that have emerged over the lockdown that have made us smile and, we hope, will also bring you joy. Peacocking about There’s been a veritable renaissance in wildlife sightings in our towns, villages and cities since the streets were emptied during lockdown. In the charming South Holland village of Gosberton, peacocks and peahens were spotted strutting down the high street. Taking full advantage of the quieter roads, the beautiful birds were sighted heading towards the pub and shops with one local snapping some eager snaps. Have you caught sight of any amazing wildlife during lockdown? By the Dancing policeman No, it’s not the latest measure introduced to tackle speeding, but the subject of a video that hit Facebook recently. A Keelby resident captured footage of police officers dancing to the YMCA in the village. From the sounds of things, it was a coordinated affair with the cops turning up in cars, blaring the siren to steal everyone’s attention, and then dancing along to the music. In times like these, it really is the little things. It wasn’t a one-off either, with other residents reporting incidents of the police breaking into dance.
