There really are no excuses now. Still, as our summers get progressively hotter and drier, it can sometimes feel a little too hot to want to do anything at all – and many homes in our region are now looking into getting air conditioning installed no matter the expense. It’s especially bad for those who have to work and who can’t afford to sit outside with a cold beer. If you’re feeling the heat, there are lots of places in Lincolnshire where you can go to escape it. Taking the dogs out walking in the shaded forests can be a great way to spend an afternoon, so long as you remember to bring water for them to drink. The cooling shade is a good way to get out the sun while also having some fun. But there are also plenty of attractions across Lincolnshire where you can cool off, be it splashing around in a water park or at a lake or going ice skating. A lot of these places open up in summer to cash in on the children out of school, and they’re great places to pick up a new hobby. If you are planning on hosting a BBQ this summer, make sure to consider popping by a local farmer or farm shop to procure your meat. The quality will often be far above what supermarkets offer and supporting a local farmer is always better than padding the already substantial coffers of supermarkets. But most of all, remember to have fun. Good reading, as always. Lincoln-based Tended has created an innovative geospatial positioning device to alert rail workers when they exit designated safe zones, allowing them to maintain a safe distance from onsite hazards, such as open lines and in-use heavy machinery. Tended, which has recently secured a seven-figure contract with Network Rail, will use the funding to strengthen its Intellectual Property portfolio, release the next generation of its wearable device and increase its headcount across sales and engineering. Leo Scott Smith, CEO and founder of Tended, said: “Our mission is to put an end to preventable accidents and fatalities. Working with top-tier investors and partners, we’re pushing the boundaries with geospatial technology and developing some exciting new capabilities that are moving us closer to this mission.” A planning application and listed building consent has been submitted to restore the Grade II listed Spilsby Sessions House into a multi-use community facility. Following detailed site preparations and surveys over the past few months, the collaborative project between East Lindsey District Council and the Spilsby Sessions House Trust has reached a key milestone. New designs as part of the planning application show the potential restoration of the building to allow a multi-use space to maximise the use of the attraction for generations to come. This restoration project will not only allow the building to be operational again, but it will support the economy of Spilsby as the space will be able to be leased out. The project at Spilsby Sessions House comprises of major repairs to the building, to allow it to be reopened for cultural and art uses, as well as to have a wider daytime use as a community space. A new café area is part of the plans to serve local people and visitors to the Lincolnshire Wolds and coast. New bin lorries to carry vital messages Five colourful new refuse collection lorries carrying health and wellbeing messages are taking to the roads of South Kesteven. The district council’s fleet already includes a pink lorry promoting breast cancer awareness and a blue lorry for prostate cancer. Joining them will be freighters supporting five more major charities: Royal British Legion, Samaritans, Bowel Cancer UK, Kidney Research UK, and Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Each is painted in the distinctive brand colours of the organisation whose messages they carry. Council lorry supplier Dennis Eagle has supported the initiative with the bespoke paint finish on the freighters, which were already on order as part of the depot’s normal turnover. Cllr Ashley Baxter, leader of South Kesteven District Council, said: “The charities we are supporting do life- saving work, each in their own way. It’s a privilege to be able to help get their messages out to residents via these new refuse vehicles.” latest news © stock.adobe.com/Denis Tabler © South Kesteven District Council Leo Scott Smith, CEO and founder of TendedThe APSS Group has raised £650 for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance during its annual Mini Ryder Cup Golf Day, held at Lincoln Golf Club in Torksey. Now in its fourth year, the event brought together APSS staff, suppliers, and customers for a day of golf, networking and fundraising. The day was not only a celebration of friendly competition, but also a meaningful way to give back to a local lifesaving service. The fundraising came through a charity raffle. Among the standout prizes were a supercar driving experience, a five-hob induction burner, and a helicopter ride – a fitting tribute to the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. Richard Mycroft, Managing Director at APSS, said: “The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance is a charity that means a lot to us. You never know when you or someone you love might need them. They provide critical care in the most urgent of situations, and we’re proud to support the incredible work they do.” APSS Group raises £650 for Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance Stamford appoints new Poet Laureate to support local arts programming Ross Ayres, a therapist and spoken word artist based near Peterborough, has been named Poet Laureate for Stamford following a competitive selection process. South Kesteven District Council awards the honorary title annually as part of its efforts to engage the local creative sector. Ayres has consistently contributed to the council’s Pint of Poetry events at Stamford Arts Centre. His new role will see him commissioned to write and perform poetry at civic events and other cultural programming across the town for the next year. The appointment reflects a broader trend of integrating the arts into community engagement and public programming, providing opportunities for creative practitioners to partner with councils and local businesses. Leisure centres in Lincoln to reopen under new operator Two leisure centres in Lincoln that abruptly shut down in April are set to reopen by mid-July under new management. The City of Lincoln Council has appointed Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) as the interim operator of Yarborough and Birchwood leisure centres following the collapse of the previous operator, Active Nation. GLL, a not-for-profit social enterprise with over 250 leisure facilities across the UK, will manage both centres on a two-year contract. The council owns the buildings and moved quickly to secure a new operator after Active Nation ceased trading due to financial pressures, citing the energy crisis as a key factor. The council had offered a £500,000 support package, but the charity did not accept the terms. Since the closure, the Lincoln City Foundation has maintained outdoor operations at both locations. GLL plans to upgrade facilities, replace gym equipment, and recruit staff across various roles. More details on programmes, memberships, and courses are expected to be released this summer. © South Kesteven District Council at annual charity golf day © stock.adobe.com/Mircea.NeteaThree East Lindsey beaches to fly Blue Flags again this summer Three East Lindsey beaches have been recognised as amongst Britain’s best, as they are announced as winners of the prestigious Blue Flag and Seaside Awards for summer 2025. West Lindsey District Council secured funding from Arts Council England, enabling professional artists to collaborate with local groups through pre-festival workshops. Supported by both Arts Council England and Gainsborough Town Council, the festival is expected to draw visitors with a full-day schedule of cultural programming in the town centre. Performances include interactive theatre, contemporary dance, community showcases, and family-friendly attractions such as storytelling installations and market stalls. Local organisations like the Rotary Club and Trinity Arts Centre contribute to the line-up, while the extended programme underlines the region’s push to develop a more vibrant cultural economy. The festival will run from 11am to 7pm and aims to stimulate foot traffic, support creative businesses, and reinforce Gainsborough’s cultural infrastructure. Organisers expect the event to build on the momentum from previous years while offering new opportunities for artist collaboration and community-led content. The initiative reflects growing recognition of the arts as a catalyst for local economic activity and civic engagement. © stock.adobe.com/Lustre Art Group*HWLQWRXFKWRȴQGRXWPRUHRUDUUDQJHDYLVLW www.tingdene-parks.net | 01933 427815 | info@tingdene.net High-quality, low-maintenance, single-storey homes Safe, secure community of like-minded residents Private garden and parking No stamp duty Part exchange and assisted move options available 2FFXS\LQJDTXLHWVSRWRQWKHRXWVNLUWVRI6FXQWKRUSH$VKȴHOG3DUN HQMR\VYLHZVRYHUWKHFRXQWU\VLGH\HWLVRQO\DIHZPLQXWHVIURP DOOWKHHYHU\GD\DPHQLWLHV\RXFRXOGQHHGSOXVDKRVWRIOHLVXUH opportunities. 0RYHLQWRDEUDQGQHZIXOO\IXUQLVKHGKRPHDQGHQMR\ the best RIWRZQDQGFRXQWU\OLYLQJ<RXFRXOGDOVRIUHHXSFDVKVDYHRQ ELOOVDQGKDYHOHVVKRPHPDLQWHQDQFH6RZKHWKHU\RXȇUHUHWLULQJ VHPLUHWLULQJRUVLPSOLQJORRNLQJWREHSDUWRIDZDUPDQG ZHOFRPLQJFRPPXQLW\\RXUHDOO\FDQȴQGWKHOLIHVW\OH\RXȇYH DOZD\VZDQWHGLQDSODFHWKDW\RXȇOOORYH Freedom to live life to the full.
