Let’s hopewith the campaigning (if one can even call it that) at an end, we canfinally move onto enjoying the warm summer months. That is, if theseason would oblige us the sun we so rightfully deserve. That’s not to say there hasn’t been some warm days, June may have broughtwith it the odd shower – torrential ones at that. But it also came with some trulyhumid days, days that, ironically, had us yearning for a little rain if only to cooloff. We should have known better. The second month of summer does bring with it its own sense of joy, however. As across Lincolnshire it will mark many varied county shows andevents. The Brocklesby and The Lincolnshire Show has come to an end, and Ihope those who came by had a chance to chat with us, but it’s certainly notthe end for events across Lincolnshire. Many will be taking place through Julyand some even into August and September, where we hope to meet and greetmore readers. Our July issue is all about the summer, with al fresco dining, summer fashionsand ideas on how to enjoy some days outside. We even consider mixing thetwo, with an article exploring the physical and mental health benefits of fishingand/or golf so now there’s no excuse to stay cooped up inside. With regular features looking at the latest home décor, as well yet anotherreader’s garden with some fantastic vistas, our magazine is packed full ofinspiration and ideas for the discerning readers of Lincolnshire Today. We hope you have a fantastic month, and here’s hoping for that wonderfulsummer we were promised.Good reading as alwaysMichael FisherAssistant EditorLincolnshireToday@lincstodaylincolnshiretoday.netEditor:Steve FisherAssistant Editor:Michael Fisher, Journalists:Dominic Cuthbert,Stuart PearceySales Director: Angela CooperSales: Kerry Randerson, Accounts & Circulations: Angela Sharman, John Downes(01472) 310301Design & Production: Gary Jorgensen,Mark CassonAdvertising: Tel: (01472) 310302, Fax: (01472) 310312 Editorial: Tel: (01472) 310305, Fax: (01472) 310317Part Of The Business Link MagazineGroup: Armstrong House, Armstrong Street,Grimsby, N E Lincs DN31 2QEEmail: lincs-today@blmgroup.co.uk Website: www.lincolnshiretoday.net ISSN No: 1366-1299© All rights reserved. Light, Sea, Sky is on display in the Muriel Barker Gallery and is free toenter, running until Sunday August 14th.Speaking about her work, Mary said: “Someone said to me today, ‘thesepaintings, they slap you in the face.’ It’s true. I apologise. Though that’s notmy intention.“But when I sketch the sunrise, that’s my response too. It’s a visual assault. For a few earth shattering minutes, I am locked in full concentration workingrapidly before it disappears. Nothing else exists. It’s just me, some oil pastels, paper and this visual monster before me. This heartbreaking, sublime beautyof a sunrise.”Mary was artist in residence at Spurn Point Lighthouse from 2010 to2012, a time she describes as the best of her life. Many of the paintings inthis exhibition are from sketches she created during that time. I opened it carefully as it wasso thick, and inside was a five paragraph letter from the Lady inWaiting thanking me for the photo. She told me that the Queen loves the photo of the swans and it had given her great pleasure to look atit. Enclosed with it was the Queen’s 90th birthday card, which has a picture of her Majesty in a beautiful pink dress with a lovely thank youmessage.I couldn’t drive my car for an hour or so, I was in such shock!Carole Crawford Cleethorpes The winner of ourletter of the monthwins a case of winePHOTO: SHAUN JEFFERS / SHUTTERSTOCK.COMRussia should bebannedDear Lincolnshire Today,How awful that Russian ministers shouldsupport the hooligans at football matches.Especially when those ‘yobs’ are preying onfamilies and easy targets.I for one cannot believe that Russia wasn’timmediately banned from the Euro 2016 aftersuch comments and the 2018 World Cup.T ClaytonLincolnRound of applauseDear Lincolnshire Today,A round of applause to your hardworking team at the Lincolnshire Showand the band ‘New Limits’ who keptthe party going.
