< Previous40 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYHAIR & BEAUTYThis year we’re seeing a trend for bright and vivid lipswhich really make a statement. It’s all about contrastingbright ruby shades against luminous sun-kissed skin. Our advice is to use a good lip liner for maximumdefinition and to keep your lippy from running. Let yourlips speak for themselves, so go easy on the mascara.Less is always more and with lips like these you won’tneed much else. Colour blocking is still popular when it comes to eyes.Basically, this trend sees a brightly coloured block, shape or smear of colour around the eye. This is anaudacious look, one that definitely wouldn’t work withthe vivid lip trend. For this you’ll want to go easy on thelips and let the eyes dazzle. Our advice here would beto try pastel shades, such as green or lilac, against adelicate foundation. But really, the choice is up to you.Don’t be afraid to experiment. One look that’s proving popular everywhere from thecatwalk to the high-street is pairing a slicked back, low-key hairstyle with fresh-face make-up and curled lashes. It’s a simple look, yes, but one that’s very effective.Another combination we’re excited about is matchingcherry-red nails with smudgy smoky eyes. This stylishcontrast has a big impact, and is pretty perennial so youcan rely on it all year round. Glowing skin is big right now and we’re not justtalking about tanning. We mean products that giveyour face a sexy sheen. This adds an iridescent qualityto your look that will leave you sparkling in the sun. Ifit’s not for you, but you want to experiment withsparkles, try adding a dab of glitter to your eyelids oreven in your hair. For minimal effort, you get maximumresults. For hair, loose buns are still a favourite, along withthe lazy up do. Basically, the trick is getting a style thatsays you haven’t dried when really you have. Shortercuts are favouring a more androgynous style that canbe really impactful when paired with a face of brightvivid make-up. In terms of accessories, sliders andgrips are cropping up more and more often, whetherto pin your fringe in place, or to add some extra blingto your look. Lastly we look at nails, where it’s all aboutaccentuating by adding glitter, texture or diamantes. Our only advice is that it’s best to get themprofessionally done as this will look better and lastlonger. But if you feel like experimenting, there’s plentyof advice and inspiration to be found on Instagram. Getting theright lookThere are no hard and fast rules for summer style, and designers andinfluencers are constantly mixing things up. So to keep things simple,Lincolnshire Today has rounded-up a few of our favourite looks this season. 40-41.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2018 10:13 Page 1© Shutterstock / Seprimor40-41.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2018 10:14 Page 242 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYHEALTH & FITNESS© Shutterstock / AntonSokolov42-43.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2018 09:19 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY43HEALTH & FITNESSNow in its sixty-third year, the Lincoln Grand PrixFestival of Cycling is a celebration of everything that’sgreat about bicycling in this beautiful region we callhome. Look closer and you’ll see that it’s not just thecounty’s capital that resonates with cyclists, with well-tended cycle paths all over Lincolnshire and cycle hubsspringing up in towns and villages such as Brigg. It’s hardly a surprise, with cycling such a great way totake in the scenery but also one of the best exercises towork the entire body. Unlike some other workouts, cycling welcomes any kind of fitness level. Even for thosewho’ve never been on a bike before, it’s by no meansdifficult to get the hand off. It’s like, um, riding a bike. We’ve all seen dedicated cyclists in their spandex, andgear affixed to their bike frame or in a backpack.Whether or not they’re wearing a helmet has provedcontroversial in certain circles. The argument came to ahead when a certain Olympic cyclist was spotted out andabout without her helmet. This was setting a badexample and the height of hypocrisy, critics claimed. Thecounter is that pedestrians and motorists – all of whichaccount for greater causalities in collisions than cyclists –should likewise be made to wear helmets. Where does itend, we hear you cry. Readers may remember aLincolnshire teenager was left comatose and braindamaged after being hit by a van. He hadn’t worn ahelmet for fear of ruining his hair. He has sincerecovered, albeit confined to a wheelchair, and nowcampaigns with his dad for road and cyclist safety. For those that would rather wear a helmet, there area number of options, from full face coverings and sportvarieties to the standard fare. Elsewhere, there are otherfactors to consider. For many a rider, the sun can bedangerous. Glares from wet roads, off of buildings andcars can be blinding. Using polarised shades or sportgoggles can significantly cut the risk as well as helpingto boost eye health all round. Though riders might forgo thermals at this time ofyear, there’s still an entire wardrobe of cycling clothingto consider. Among the most useful are gloves andspecialised shoes – that goes without saying – shortsand jerseys. Just watch out for chaffing (seasonedcyclists reading this will know what we’re talking about). A backpack is also a must, if only for storing fluids, apump and puncture repair kit, a few tools and proteinbars. Other advisable items would be sunscreen, a map, battery pack for your smart phone, first aid kit and, ifyou’re so inclined, the latest issue of Lincolnshire Today.Lincolnshire by bikeWith its stunning country paths, walkways and flat forgivinglandscape, Lincolnshire is a haven for cyclists. Not only is this one ofthe best ways to take in the county’s natural beauty, but a brilliantway to keep mind and body in tip-top shape.42-43.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2018 09:19 Page 244 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYCLEETHORPESseasideCleethorpes is a proud town with a rich heritage that still manages todraw a number of tourists today.Down by the 44-47.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2018 09:21 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY45CLEETHORPESTalk to most people in Lincolnshire andthey’ll have fond memories of childhoodholidays in Cleethorpes.
