You’d be forgiven forthinking that the seasons don’t even exist any more, and, aswe compile our August issue I can’t help wondering if therain and grey skies will ever give way to a little sunshine. In previous years this issue would be dedicated to articlesheralding the very heart of Lincolnshire summers. This wouldseem just plain daft to me given that you’ve probably all had sandbags piled upagainst your front doors and trenchfoot is no doubt reaching epidemicproportions in the county. But are we letting that get us down? Of course not. Anyone who caught upwith us at the many shows around the county will have seen that it takes morethan a drop of rain for us to stop getting out there and meeting our readers. I’dlike to thank all who braved the elements and came out to see us at theLincolnshire Show, Brocklesby Show, the All About Gardening show in Lincoln, the Waddington Air Show of course and our very first appearance at theWinterton Show. Meeting so many readers in such a few short weeks hascertainly paid dividends and, as you’ll notice from the subtle changes withinthis magazine, we’ve been listening hard to what else you’d like to see in thesepages. Of course, wet weather can be a touch depressing so this month we’ve pulledout all the stops to cheer you up - bringing you what we think is one of ourbest issues yet. And, let’s not give up entirely on a good British summer; there’sstill time to get those barbecues lit and enjoy balmy afternoons in the sun. Oris that just wishful thinking – ah well, ever the optimist, as my bank manageroften says…Good reading, whatever the weather Steve FisherEditorWelcome toLincolnshire TodayLincolnshireToday@lincstodaylincolnshiretoday.net03:Layout 1 13/7/12 12:28 Page 1Features12 GainsboroughAll set for a bright future52 Get away from it allThese handsome hotels will set your pulse racing58 Flying high at WaddingtonAction and excitement at the nation’s top air show61 Business LincsWhether you’re already in business or thinking of going italone, our business editors offer some words of wisdom72 WildlifeWe visit a Skegness seal sanctuaryLooking good30 Summer breezeFeel fabulously chic in this wonderful collection of garments38 Those gotta have itemsMust-have accessories for your wardrobe40 Bare essentialsFocus on your summer beauty regime whatever the weather43 Eat clean and train! Our fat loss expert gives you some more top tipsAt home18 A touch of eleganceAnother chance to gain inspiration from readers’ homes22 Antique items right on timeA host of delightful items have gone under the hammer24 Garden of distinctionsReaders’ gardens rarely come as big as this six acre garden inBranston30August 2012ContentsContents04-05:Layout 1 13/7/12 12:28 Page 1Leisure28 Lincolnshire WalksAlford and Rigsby74 Getting one jump aheadMore equine action76 Active LincolnshireDetermined not to live in an ordinary life, we diveinto more extreme adventureCounty Motoring78 The world on wheelsClassic cars to debunk the myth that Germany rules82 Motorcycle madnessExcitement guaranteed at Cadwell Park this summerSocial Scenes15 Riseholme College Ball60 Spalding High School BallRegulars6 News Stories from around the county85 What’s OnFun and excitement this month in Lincolnshire87 The reviewOur critics review the latest books, music and films88 HoroscopesWhat will your stars say?Front cover courtesy of Hasloo Group Production Studio8074124004-05:Layout 1 13/7/12 12:28 Page 206:Layout 1 13/7/12 12:29 Page 1Students’ edgy products give market aSLAMProduct Design students from the University of Lincoln have secured a contractwith giftware company SLAM, which will see their designs on the shelves. The students assigned to the SLAM project this year generated around threehundred concepts for new products, described as ‘functional ornaments for thedomestic environment’.
