With all the unusual forecasts and torrentialdownpours it can be easy to think that the country has gotten out ofcontrol – a result of the Brexit no doubt – but the summer solstice stillshone bright for us all.Moving into August, we can hopefully expect more of that, asbarbecue weather kicks in. As always remember to wear sunscreenwhile enjoying the hot days, and stay hydrated. I prefer to make surethat’s with some nice Pimms, but other options are available. We may be moving towards autumn, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t stillsome summer left, and the various shows still taking place across Lincolnshireshow that. From county fairs to re-enactments, plays and musicals – the countyis alive and bustling. So make sure to check out our `what’s on` section for allthe latest news.Within our August issue of the Lincolnshire Today magazine we’ve got theheight of summer fashion, light recipes to take outside and also an in-depthlook at the hobby and sport that’s gripping the county – cycling. Beyond that, we visit Brigg – a town rich in both heritage and communityspirit, where we can a look into the town’s distant past. Lincolnshire has alwaysbeen an old and exciting place, but we delve deeper into what made it one ofthe most powerful counties in the old world. Lincolnshiredemonstrates both, and that’s why social workers want to work forthe local authority.” He added: “The county council is working hard to match those children with the right families. The result is that young children are placed incaring and loving homes, where they have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.“I’d hope that children’s services departments in other areas will look to Lincolnshire for inspiration.”Lincolnshire’s social work practice model, as a case study, was marked as an area that “is beginning to change thinking and practice” and isgiving a louder voice to children.LATEST NEWSPoppies: Wave welcomes200,000th visitorOver 200,000 people have visited Poppies: Wave - just six weeksafter it opened at Lincoln Castle.Lincoln was chosen to host Wave, by artist Paul Cummins anddesigner Tom Piper, by the arts programme for the First World Warcentenary, 14-18 NOW.Amy Farrington, originally from Lincoln but now living inBarcelona, was the 200,000th person to visit Poppies: Wave.
