Its owners were initially drawn to the property’s “glorious” garden, which gets the sun all day long, and its quirkiness, as a cottage of two halves, with each having its own master bedroom and one acting as a guest wing. “As soon as we walked in, we were sold,” they said. Though Sonia and her husband- to-be have only been at the property a short while (almost a year and a half), they have used that time wisely, truly making the house their own. The couple have completed a fair amount of work, remodelling the Full of charm, Pear Tree Cottage is an idyllic abode with a lot to offer. Sonia said: “We opened up the kitchen to allow for more flexible living, and we changed the floors, replenished all of the windows at the front of the house, replaced doors and completely redecorated throughout.” Taking a tour of the abode, one will step into the entrance hall. To the right is the open plan living kitchen, Sonia’s favourite room in the home. The bespoke Krantz kitchen incorporates a combination of Quartz and walnut work tops, a Belfast sink, butler’s pantry, and a 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 23/07/2021 08:22 Page 212 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HOMES range of appliances including a professional mercury cooking range and a variety of Neff and Miele appliances. While through bi-fold doors one can embrace the rear courtyard, the room also leads to a boot room, WC, and a utility room. To the left of the entrance is the dining room, featuring an original fireplace and beams, exposed brick walling and a wood burner. This connects to the snug, also holding an original fireplace and beams. From here one can reach the sitting room with a fitted Bang and Olufsen television with sound bar and granite surround. Moving through to the inner hallway, one will find a shower room and the garden room at the rear of the property which hosts a vaulted ceiling that displays a map of the world, exquisitely hand painted by someone in the village, as well as floor to ceiling windows and two sets of bi-fold doors. “I love to sit in the garden room in the evening or first thing in the morning. It’s just beautiful.” Sonia said. “We had a giant tree in there at Christmas. The room was stunning.” The inner hallway also holds stairs ascending to the useful guest wing - with its dressing area and luxury en-suite bathroom with granite surrounds - and mezzanine level with a study area. “As 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 23/07/2021 08:22 Page 3LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 13 HOMES used as a fifth bedroom, can also be found, as well as two further bedrooms, both hosting fitted wardrobes and one a built-in bed, and a family bathroom. One will discover intriguing arches, a variety of shrubs, gorgeous old roses, a Japanese acer, and fruit trees, including an apple tree and unsurprisingly, with the cottage’s name, a pear tree. “Pictures never seem to do the garden justice,” Sonia said. “There’s some really nice features and it’s been well thought out. Sonia noted: “If you wanted to run a business from home, this is a really good space. You could even have a waiting room downstairs for clients coming in and out, which would be useful particularly if you were providing some form of treatment or therapy.” Despite loving the property, Sonia and her husband-to-be are now selling. “We thought we would never move again, and I will be really, really sad to leave,” Sonia said. “There’s nothing about the house we don’t like, but we’re going to the other side of Lincoln as Craig has been tempted back out of retirement and the move will take a good 45 minutes off of his commute.” Pear Tree Cottage is on the market with Mundys for £925,000. 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 23/07/2021 08:22 Page 5LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 15 FREE COL OUR UPGRADE Warmer in Winter/Cooler in Summer Energy Efficient & Reduces Noise Unique, Patented Design Direct from the Manufacturer Lightweight & Strong – No Stress to Existing Structure Our patented, aluminium, roof cassette system cleverly transforms most existing conservatories into a well insulated room that can be used all year round whilst radically improving the appearance inside and out. An abstract look at nature Jarome is a contemporary Irish artist living in Norfolk and specialising in using multi- medium art and painting techniques. Despite his works having a deliciously abstract flair, they are inspired by the beauty of the countryside, the shapes and colours. Growing up in the west coast of Ireland left an imprint that continues to inspire the artist to this day, but now he’s just as likely to take inspiration from the coast of Norfolk, his adoptive home. In his work, Jarome combines various unexpected materials, everything from oil paints, artists resin, ink, and luminous power paint, onto fragments of industrial and monastic glass, forgotten pieces of textile, and found objects from the coastline thrown up by the tides. The heavily textured paintings are often drawn from memories and experiences through his colourful life, from training as a concert pianist, after which he studied for a degree in the history of religious art, to time spent as a priest, followed by life as an actor and director with international companies throughout the world. His journey has always centred on expressive art and a paint brush was never far from his reach. Jarome’s passion for life can be found in his works. While he’s been painting for many years, almost all his life, this is the first time his work will be exhibited in Lincolnshire, and not many other places have ever had the pleasure. Those who spend a lot of time in Malta may have seen his work before though as Jerome regularly exhibits in his annual trip to the island. 16-17.qxp_Layout 1 23/07/2021 08:24 Page 2Out in the sun It’s high summer and we’re all for spending as much time outside as possible.
