People can tour Grade I listed Grantham House on Castlegate and its five-acre gardens for free. It is hoped the National Trust property will become a hub for the community and a major tourism draw, attracting some of the 400,000 annual visitors to its nearby Belton House. The trust was supported by South Kesteven District Council in securing a grant of £105,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). This, together with the same level of investment from the trust, paid for essential works to restore and update the townhouse making it a place people could visit. Grantham House, which was a private tenanted home until recently, has a café and a second-hand bookshop. It boasts walled gardens, a riverside meadow, short woodland walk, and expansive lawns complete with games such as croquet and giant chess. There are also rooms for hire. It will be operated in partnership with neighbouring St Wulfram’s Church, and they will run joint activities including Yoga and fundraise together. North East Lincolnshire Council is preparing to spend just over £6 million to fix structural issues linked to RAAC at Grimsby’s Freshney Place car park. The material, Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete, was flagged during the council’s £16.5 million acquisition of the shopping centre in 2022. Known for being lightweight but fragile, RAAC has caused disruption across the UK, including temporary closures at hundreds of schools. Freshney Place’s two car parks, offering a combined 849 spaces, were already in need of major repairs at the time of purchase. Since then, RAAC has also been found in other areas of the centre. The council is weighing up two options: replacing the faulty concrete entirely or reinforcing it with steel supports. Full replacement is the likely route, with work expected to begin after a formal tender is issued in winter 2025/26. The project could take up to two years. The cost has been factored into Freshney Place’s long-term planning, and the council says efforts will be made to keep disruption to a minimum for staff, with temporary facilities provided if needed. Wrawby Play Park sees £55,000 revamp North Lincolnshire Council is supporting the transformation of Wrawby Play Park, reshaping the village’s recreational landscape. The project costing £54,955 looks to inject new energy into the play area, offering local families a fun, safe environment. Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is exactly the kind of investment that helps strengthen our communities, whilst supporting our young people in rural areas to have the best possible play equipment. “We are proud to back projects like this and invest in play activities. “The planned investment represents more than upgraded play equipment, it’s about building a stronger Wrawby, where families can connect and children and young people can thrive.” Driving the initiative is Wrawby Parish Council. North Lincolnshire Council has awarded £21,730 to Wrawby Parish Council through the Community Grants Programme, which supports projects across sport, arts, and heritage that enable communities to flourish. latest news © stock.adobe.com/Oleksandr © South Kesteven District Council © North Lincolnshire CouncilEast Lindsey District Council’s Planning Committee has given the green light for the installation of accommodation pods in Skegness, aiming to reduce homelessness and support vulnerable residents. The approval marks a significant milestone in the council’s efforts to provide safe, dignified and transitional accommodation for people experiencing homelessness in East Lindsey. Each sleeping pod is a secure, waterproof shelter and a pathway toward a more permanent housing solution to individuals in crisis, with a bed, chemical toilet and charging facilities all included inside. The pods are designed to help people who have been rough sleeping and have complex needs, making hostel-style accommodation unsuitable. The council anticipates that the installation will begin taking place in late September and is expected to be completed with all four pods operational by the end of October. The pod scheme will also receive a host of wraparound services, including health, housing and employment support to help individuals rebuild their lives. Accommodation pod scheme gets green light Work underway on new £26.5m Endoscopy Unit at Lincoln County Hospital Construction work is underway on a new £26.5m Endoscopy Unit to meet the growing needs of people in Lincolnshire. The new unit at Lincoln County Hospital will offer a modern, accessible facility for patients. It will provide state- of-the-art procedure rooms, as well as post-procedure rooms that include en-suite facilities which will improve patient experience. The building will also offer a bright and spacious waiting room, as well as larger working areas for staff. Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group chief executive, professor Karen Dunderdale, said: “Our endoscopy diagnostic services can help to detect cancer, so it is vital that we invest in these services to continue to be able to support our patients with fast and comfortable diagnostic services. “Our new unit will mean that we can increase diagnostic capacity, offer even higher levels of patient privacy and provide a great working environment for our staff.” New partnership brings specialist baby loss support to bereaved parents in Lincolnshire Bereaved parents will benefit from specialist counselling thanks to a hospital charity-funded partnership between United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (ULTH) and Petals, the baby loss counselling charity. This vital specialist support that is so often needed by parents following pregnancy and baby loss is not routinely available through the NHS. The emotional impact of this type of loss can be devastating, leaving many parents struggling with day-to-day life, unable to return to work, and feeling isolated in their grief. United Lincolnshire Hospitals charity manager, Ben Petts, said: “It is a privilege to stand alongside our Specialist Bereavement Midwifery Team and provide £100,000 to secure this vital baby loss counselling service for the next two years. This partnership will ensure compassionate, specialist care is offered to those who need it most, when they need it most.” Petals provide specialist counselling to help parents navigate the trauma of baby loss. In the past year alone, the charity has delivered more than 6,759 counselling sessions across the country. © United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust An artist’s impression of the new Endoscopy Unit © stock.adobe.com/Duncan in Skegness Rachel Bond, specialist bereavement midwife at ULTHNew SEND hubs to offer more inclusive support in Lincolnshire schools A major investment in inclusive education is underway across Lincolnshire, with £7 million earmarked to create 13 new hubs designed to support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Five local authority-maintained primary schools will introduce dedicated SEND hubs, joining six primary academies and two secondary academies already approved by the Department for Education. These hubs will offer smaller class sizes and dedicated support led by specially trained staff, aiming to provide pupils with the tailored help they need while remaining in mainstream schools. In total, the initiative will create 210 additional places for children with SEND, helping address a growing demand for inclusive, community-based learning. Construction and setup for the new facilities are scheduled to begin in autumn 2025, with all hubs expected to be fully operational by autumn 2026. The chosen schools include a mix of Church of England, Methodist, and community schools, reflecting a broad effort to improve access to high-quality education regardless of school type or location. latest news © stock.adobe.com/Ermolaeva Olga Red Arrows fly high in hospital charity fundraiser The children’s wards at Lincoln County Hospital are set to receive a fundraising boost after Red Arrows personnel completed a gruelling 8,000-mile challenge. As members of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team carried out their pre-season training in Croatia and Greece earlier this year, pilots, engineers and support staff also took up the challenge to collectively run, swim, walk, row and cycle the equivalent return distance from their base at RAF Waddington to the overseas locations. At the end of the month-long deployment the team had successfully completed the distance and raised £460 for the Rainforest and Safari children’s wards at Lincoln County Hospital. Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity Manager, Ben Petts, said: “The Red Arrows have generously supported us for several years and this latest donation brings the total amount raised to over £3,500. We can use these funds to purchase extra pieces of equipment for the children’s ward which will improve the lives of our young patients, their families and the staff who care for them.” KEVIN JOHNSON “For those times when you need a helping hand on farm or on land” 4 Church Road | Wittering | Peterborough | PE8 6AG Tel: 01780 782924 | Mobile: 07860 608825 enquiries@kevinjohnsoncontracting.co.uk www.kevinjohnsoncontracting.co.uk •Fertiliser Spreading 12m to 36m •Lime Spreading •Maize Drilling •Grass Mowing with Triple Mowers Sleaford selected for ecoPlant Clean Planet Energy, a UK-based clean-tech firm, has chosen Sleaford Moor Enterprise Park for its second ecoPlant facility in the UK. The new plant is part of Clean Planet’s plan to tackle the plastic waste crisis, with an estimated £35 million investment in its construction. This ecoPlant will process up to 25,000 tonnes of traditionally non- recyclable plastic waste annually, such as fast food containers, shopping bags, and plastic films. The facility will convert this waste into Purified Pyrolysis Oil, an alternative to the fossil oils used in petrochemical industries. The plant is expected to create 50-70 permanent jobs and an additional 100 jobs during construction. The site was chosen for its access to industrial infrastructure and the council’s commitment to sustainability. The development aligns with North Kesteven District’s goals of promoting green industries and local economic growth. The facility is located on a plot in the second phase of Sleaford Moor Enterprise Park, which already includes energy- efficient units featuring solar panels and EV charging points.
