Hurrah! Not that we haven’t all enjoyed seeing our offspring at home andsure we may shed a tear when we drop them back off at Uni butlet’s face it, there’s got to be more to life than seeing them wastecountless days in front of their computers or iPads, or video gamesand TV. Sadly, it seems the outdoors has ceased to be an option to many ofthem, unless of course there’s a late night party planned, in which case weare expected to taxi them there and hold their heads later while they retch inthe early hours of the morning recounting how much they love us andapologising for not telling us more often. Of course, not everyone will be celebrating - teachers, headmastersand lecturers I salute thee and sincerely hope you enjoyed your well-deserved summer. One can only imagine the torment and sadness ofknowing that you will be teaching our children for another few weeks beforeanother well-deserved autumn break. The good news is, of course, that youcan look forward to a new year of fresh-faced intake who will, I am sure, make it all worthwhile. So now our readers have all got some structure back to their lives, and alittle more routine, you’ll be able to fully enjoy our latest offerings. This month’s issue features a grand supplement on weddings – including thelatest bridal fashion. We also look at one of our more prominent Lincolnshirecritters, and test-drive some of the latest cars on the market. The Barrowby development is well-suited fora relaxed pace of life, with Grantham’s historical town centre just a shortdrive away, plenty of countryside walks available and a traditional weeklymarket selling local fruit, vegetables and fresh fish caught across theLincolnshire coast. Life-size horse sculpturesdisplayed at Normanby HallCountry Park stablesTwo life-sized horses, complete with naked male riders, havegone on display at Normanby Hall Country Park stables. Thesculptures demonstrate the creative process behind the artworks, with the wooden piece – originally crafted to act as a form onwhich to make the copper piece – standing proudly beside thefinished work. Artist Harold Gosney, 75, has been fascinated byhorses since owning his own equines in the sixties. It has alwaysbeen his artistic ambition to sculpt a life sized representation. Thelynchpin of his portfolio is the human form and the horse, coupledwith themes inspired by classic and renaissance art. Despite hisstanding as one of the nation’s foremast living artists, you’d beforgiven for not knowing his name. Harold is modest by nature, and has never actively courted celebrity.
