There are several types and causes of urinary incontinence:Don’t suffer in silenceWOMEN'S HEALTHIf you think urinary incontinence only affects older women, think again. Bladder control issues affect younger, active women as well. Are you one of them? There are four kinds of these problems:1. Stress incontinence is that little leak that happens when you cough, laugh, sneeze – any motion that stresses or puts too much pressure on the bladder. Stress incontinence can result from pregnancy and childbirth, when pelvic muscles and tissues can be stretched and damaged. It can also occur from high-impact sports, as a result of ageing or from being overweight2. Urge incontinence or “overactive bladder” is a bit different – it's the urgent need to go, followed by an involuntary loss of urine – with anything from a few seconds to a minute's warning. It is thought to be due to spasms of the bladder muscles. Conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease or a urinary tract infection can cause urge incontinence3. Mixed incontinence means you have more than one type of incontinence, with stress and urge incontinence being the typical mix4. 3ZIV¾S[MRGSRXMRIRGI-J]SYGERXIQTX]]SYVFPEHHIVIZIV]XMQI]SYKSXSthe toilet and experience a frequent or constant dribbling of urine, you have SZIV¾S[MRGSRXMRIRGIMiss AgarwalMiss Agarwal joined Lincoln County Hospital (LCH) in January 2011 as Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. The homes are exceptionallyinsulated, triple-glazed and made virtuallyair-tight to keep energy losses down.Homes also benefit from heat-recoverytechnologies on the ventilation andplumbing systems.Requirements for purchasing gridenergy, which is only likely to becomemore expensive in the future, are furtherreduced by including state-of-the artspace-heating technology, and by fittingeach home with solar panels. These impressive new homes will enjoy apanoramic view over a large pond, set infive picturesque acres of landscapedparkland which will include allotments forkeen gardeners and a fruit orchard. Threesides of the site are surrounded by maturehedgerows, and on the other by well-developed woodland.Individual homes will be owned bybuyers, who will share ownership of thewhole estate. Maintenance of the estatewill be through a residents’ group, withassociated costs offset by solar panelincome and other site benefits. The unique location and nature of thesite has also allowed the best ideas fromthe Hockerton community housing projectto flourish, meaning this is a rareopportunity for eighteen buyers to live inhomes built to tomorrow’s high standardsin beautiful surroundings. For more information on thedevelopment, visitwww.hodelk.com/residential-sales or totrack the build programme, follow@gustohomes on Twitter.011:Layout 1 12/9/14 14:28 Page 1*Based on the following purchase prices, £83,995 for apartments and £151,995 for houses. We visit ahome that sums up what’s great about the escape of living in the county.014-017:Layout 1 15/9/14 10:38 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY15HOMESarren Remington has been at Fir Tree Drive for aroundnine years. A joiner by trade, he has lovingly updated thiswonderful home which sits pretty in the idyllic and gorgeousvillage of Elsham in North East Lincolnshire. As Darren says,“Living here is like living in a hamlet, it’s so quiet as there’s noreason to be in the village unless you live here. It’s so convenientfor the road links, but as a village it’s a fantastic place to live.”We couldn’t agree more. Whenever we visit, we are astoundedat the quiet, the unspoilt beauty and the classic village feel youget from your surroundings. The home we visit is a large, familyaffair, the façade of which belies its sheer size. A beautiful dining roomhas a specially-introduced alcove thatmeans there’s more space for largergatherings. Elsewhere, a largeswimming pool and hot tub meanrelaxing is made that much easier. One quirk is that you can also opena small window in the master bedroomupstairs to soak in the sound ofundulating water from the pool from abalcony, something which you canimage is incredibly soothing on anight. One thing which you get from thehome is a sense of space opened up.The hall’s delightful staircase has anornate balustrade made by Darren, leading to a spacious and light upstairs. The bathroom boasts some incredibletiling and a standalone bath that014-017:Layout 1 15/9/14 10:39 Page 3LINCOLNSHIRETODAY17screams opulence. Elsewhere upstairsyou’d be forgiven for thinking the spaceends. As Darren points out, there’s a hugeamount of space waiting to be opened upin the form of a loft conversion. Althoughhe hasn’t had the time to transform it,several more rooms are available to becreated if you reach up. This home is full of potential and Darrensuggests it could be a wonderful familyhome for the right person. We can’t quitebelieve Darren is leaving the home tomove on, but this means this amazinghome is up for grabs for someone new toenjoy.
