It might be why so many of us go against the grain thistime of year, and trendsetters break outside the box for someaudacious styles. With such a rich mix of colours to choose from, it’s obviousthe big brands will favour the darker end of the spectrum. Thelatest look is about getting a deep dark red on your lips.Rouge-noir might sound like a café in Paris, but it’s all abouthaving a whisper of red in amongst the black. Tryexperimenting with matte and glossy effects for twocompletely different looks. A darker purple will give just asalluring an effect, and with the gothic look that rolls aroundevery year, you’ll be well prepared. It’s difficult to achieve that sun-kissed glow all year round;fortunately, there are plenty of toners, foundations and blushoptions to get that passionate, illuminated look without havingto resort to fake tan. Flushed cheeks never go out of style andare as popular as ever, so adding a rosy tone will give a freshand natural look and keep you in with the in crowd. It’s all partof looking like you’ve just woken up. Whether it’s your hairroutine or morning make-up ritual, looking like you haven’ttried will see you through to summer. For eyes, there’s really only one trend worth following andthat’s the graphic liner. You might already finish applying yourliquid liner with a flourish, but taking it a step further can make abold impression. The catwalk is awash with daring stylesinfluenced by everything from punk to military. If long black linesaround your eyes isn’t quite you, a flirty flash of colour can workjust as well, especially if you’re going for a more playful look. Glitter is everywhere! Whether it’s a dash on the lips, eye lids, cheeks or brows, a touch of glitter with make you sparkle, adding another dimension to your style with minimum effort. Some have even taken to wearing glitter in the roots of the hairfor a throwback, girl-power look with plenty of edge. But what about your nails? Trust us when we say thatanything goes. Nail art has never been more popular, and thereare some truly wild styles to try. A current favourite is themarble effect, difficult to achieve but well worth the effort. There are plenty of online guides if you’re feeling up to it, butfor an easier but no less impressive style, try a mirror ballvarnish. It’s amazing how much impact reflective nails can have. Time of theseason Autumn is the most ethereal time of year with a romantic colour pallet to takeinspiration from and even better when you go against it. It’s difficult toconsider Lincolnshire without thinkingabout seals, they’re so much a part of thefabric of this county, like Poacher cheeseor Skegness’ Jolly Fisherman. The pups will stay on land and gorgeon their mother’s special, fat-rich milk torapidly pile on the pounds. Mother seals, remarkably, can recognise their ownpups’ calls and even know how their ownoffspring smell. But within a few monthson the teat, the pups will have ditchedtheir soft silky fur, replacing it insteadwith the dense, waterproof fur offur plus blubber to take on the perils ofthe ocean. Sadly, that might not beenough to save them from the threat ofpollution, discarded fishing nets or overlyeager tourist. The things some folks willgo for a selfie beggars belief. The grey seal is popular with almosteveryone, except perhaps for Britishfishermen who have called for a cullclaiming that seals are eating into theirstocks. But since 1970, the animal hasbeen protected under the Conservationof Seals Act in the UK, so British seals canbreathe a sigh of relief, especially whencompared to their Canadian cousins. Inthe seal world, going out clubbing has avery different meaning. It might be one of the rarest species of seal, but you’d be forgivenfor thinking otherwise with the abundance of grey seals around theLincolnshire coast.Lincolnshirewildlifeadulthood. Then they’ll leave for sea andlearn to fish for themselves. When it comes to eating, the grey sealisn’t all that picky. It might plump for apassing octopus or lobster, but any fishgoes. Though it has a healthy appetite, the seal doesn’t have to eat every dayand even fasts during the breedingseason, so spare a passing thought forthe seal when you’re tucking into yourHalloween treats. Nevertheless, grey seals are keenhunters with even blind seals being foundin good condition, suggesting thatthey’re able to forage with their othersenses and use their acute whiskers.
