< Previous10 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HCUK TRAINING Q&A Can you tell us a bit more about your Skills Support for Redundancy programme and what skills specifically it offers? The Skills Support for Redundancy (SSR) programme started in 2019 in the Greater Lincolnshire area as part of the Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) programme HCUK Training was already offering. We work in partnership with the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership, the project offers industry- relevant skills training in sectors such as Manufacturing, Agri-food, Visitor economy, Low Carbon, Health & Care, Ports & Logistics and we work alongside 20 local colleges and training providers all across the Greater Lincolnshire area. Our staff and trainers are dedicated to supporting eligible companies and employees facing redundancy. This may be through offering CV writing or interview skill courses or retraining through a variety of certificated short courses. Following the current COVID-19 government guidelines, HCUK Training is once again able to restart a range of classroom-based courses. We are also happy to come into the workplace under individual regulations to deliver training if that is preferred. The courses will be delivered alongside our online courses, which have run throughout lockdown. They range from certificated one day courses to NVQ Level 2 and 3, We have a wide range on offer, including Level 3 Education and Training, Business Improvement Techniques, Level 2 training in mental health awareness, hospitality, health and social care and a range of one day courses, and best of all they are all free. As well as helping employees, the programme also endeavours to encourage businesses to tackle redundancy in a more positive and productive way. How can you encourage this change in corporate culture? There is a national redundancy support route through Department of Work and Pensions and the National Careers Service which can be accessed through rrs.enquiries@dwp.gov.uk. At HCUK Training, we will carry out an in depth training and assessment session with the business leaders where we can identify what training will be best suited to help the staff facing redundancy, whether it be upskilling or re-training, and then look at ways to support the remaining staff. Redundancy is a very traumatic event for everyone involved, but taking advantage of this fully-funded training is a positive step forward for any company who has found itself in this unfortunate position to offer new opportunities, particularly to the staff they are having to let go. Investment in training builds confidence and that is vital if we are Q&A HCUK Training We spoke to HCUK Training about its dedicated Skills Support for Redundancy programme and how business can adapt workplace attitudes towards redundancies. © Shutterstock /goodluz 10-11.qxp_Layout 1 28/09/2020 15:59 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 11 HCUK TRAINING Q&A going to keep industries strong and moving forward, and as our training is free of charge, the ‘investment’ we are talking about here is time to train. If the remaining staff are going to be required to take on new roles, we can help them build those skills, too. It is widely recognised that the pandemic has affected our mental well-being in many different ways. Redundancy can make people feel dissatisfied, or upset and maybe even guilty, so let’s move forward in a positive way. Through training and support, we can build confidence and security in the workforce and we can aim to reduce down-time and sickness, making the work day more productive, overall. Reputation is going to be also key in all this, so be the company that ensures your staff facing redundancy don’t feel like they are doing it alone. This time should be about positive reengagement and the HCUK Training Partnership is in a prime position to support businesses to do just that. Can the programme help the long- term unemployed, or is aimed more at the recently redundant? The SSR courses we offer through Greater Lincolnshire are for people facing redundancy, or who have been made redundant within the last three months. Our aim is through the re-training and upskilling we can help people avoid unemployment. We do appreciate there are going to be people who have worked in the same job for a good many years and these changes, including learning new skills and preparing for a job workplace or role can be extremely daunting, so we have developed online CV workshops and can help with interview skills and preparation. HCUK Training also offers the Skills Support for the Workforce scheme in Greater Lincolnshire, for SMEs and micro businesses. Are there enough spaces available on the programme to accommodate the potential level of training and support? We have trainers and partners all over the Greater Lincolnshire area and we also offer online training, so we are well prepared and ready for an influx of people looking for support. We would encourage anyone going through this or who thinks their job may be at risk to get in touch immediately. Further support is available for businesses through the national and local redundancy support route through Department of Work and Pensions and the National Careers Service which can be accessed through rrs.enquiries@dwp.gov.uk. The courses are free, but how are they funded? Between 2019 and 2023 more than £10 million has been available through these projects thanks to the continued investment and support from the European Social Fund (ESF) and part funding from The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA). To date over £3 million has been committed already to training in the region. Thanks to the ESF and the ESFA we are in a great position to offer the training absolutely free of charge. We really want businesses in Greater Lincolnshire to take advantage of this and access training and support either on the SSR or SSW programmes. We appreciate training is daunting, but whether you are a business or an individual facing redundancy get in touch and have a chat and see what we can offer. For more information about SSR, contact Julie Stubbs by emailing Julie.stubbs@hcuktraining.co.uk or calling 07538 113437. With good schools on the doorstep, surroundings of beautiful countryside and the heart of the city centre just 15 minutes away, the abode truly provides the best of both worlds. You can even see Lincoln Cathedral from a balcony at the front of the home. The property has been completely renovated by its owners, who were initially drawn to the sheer amount of space provided. “It really was huge and had great potential to become a family home,” they said. “It was empty for 4 years before we got it and we’ve renovated the entire property inside and out, overhauling the gardens, and completing all the standard projects inside - new bathroom and kitchen, redecorating everything from ceiling to floor.” Despite this, the property retains its history, and is covered in period features, from servant’s bells to beams, to Victorian window seats. Even the keys to the property are an eye-catching Victorian piece. A work of art overall, tourists stop to admire the building. While imposing from the outside, the house has been transformed into the perfect family home. “We focused on making the house very comfortable and cosy because it’s quite a formal looking building,” the owners said. A well organised property, there are designated areas for everything you could want. Stepping into the reception hall, one is greeted by mosaic tile flooring, two circular windows, and stairs up to the first floor landing. One can also step down to a cloaks area built in church relic which came from the Bardney Abbey Ruins, and which has beams to the ceiling. To the left of the hall is the drawing room, hosting a walk-in bay 14 Á 12-16.qxp_Layout 1 28/09/2020 16:03 Page 214 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HOMES window with Victorian window seat housing the original under floor central heating system, and an open fireplace with decorative surround and brick hearth. Currently used as a family room, the drawing room also acts as a library and playroom. To the right of the hall is the sitting room, which also holds a walk-in bay window and is noted as the abode’s very best room. “You have the open fire, timber beams, and the original Victorian seating in front of the window, plus it’s nice and sunny in there,” the owner said. Off of the sitting room is the dining room, highlighted as the centrepiece of the house, which features double doors that open up the room to a lovely covered patio seating area to the front of the property with a mature grape vine atop, planted in the 1930s. The kitchen is fitted with a range of base units and drawers with wooden work surfaces over, a ceramic sink and drainer, space for a Range Cooker, dishwasher, wall mounted units with complementary tiling below and a cast iron radiator. The utility room meanwhile hosts floor to ceiling stone wall from Bardney Abbey Ruins, an original “hidey-hole”, and a door to the rear hall, from which the first floor landing, cloaks area, and pantry can be reached. The large pantry certainly shouldn’t be overlooked, with features including original full sized tiled cold slab, original meat hooks, space for a chest freezer and window to the side with fly screens. Travelling upstairs, across the first and second floor, six bedrooms can be found, along with a bathroom and WC. 16 Á PREMIUM MULTI-FUEL STOVES & FIRES ELECTIC & GAS FIRES AND SURROUNDS We have an extensive range of fireplaces, multi-fuel and wood burning stoves along with a magnificent collection of gas fires, electric fires and surrounds on display at our showroom in Boston, Lincolnshire. One should also make note of the picture gothic-style window on the second floor and lancet doors. The house has also retained its original servants’ quarters. Moving outside the home, impressive gardens can be discovered with many different areas. Up front there is a wrought iron fence and welcoming path to the front door with box hedging. The property also has cottage-style planted gardens, an extensive rose garden created by the owners - 70 roses have been planted - and gated access and a well lawned garden with mature shrubs and trees to the rear. The gardens are quite the nature spot, attracting a variety of birds, and a wildflower garden planted just six months ago greets bees amongst other creatures. The owners noted: “Simply sitting outside and looking up at the building in the sunshine is breath-taking.” There are also two barns on the property, one of which has its original hay loft while the other has 20ft vaulted ceilings, workshop space, an original Victorian laundry room with original built-in laundry system, two garages with rooms above, and a coal shed. Having lived at the property for four years, the owners are now looking to sell. Explaining why they said: “We’ve been buying and selling properties since we were 20, from London up to Lincolnshire. We’ve made our stamp on the home now, so it’s time to pass it on to somebody else and find a new project to get our teeth into.” Eve House is on the market with Mundys for £585,000. Use the onset of autumn and the cooler, darker weather as an excuse to take stock of all your belongings, especially those on show, and get rid of anything that’s cluttering up your home. It’s often a cathartic experience that not only benefits your home but your mind. With whatever remains, you can use stylish solutions to elegantly store them out of sight, or actively display them. Stuffing everything into a drawer or garage is only a temporary solution and, honestly, it’s only putting off the inevitable. It’s much better to tackle the issue head on and get it done. We promise it’ll not only make your home look better, but you’ll feel better for it. Storage is necessary, so why not make it the very best it can be with pieces that combine style and function. These stylish storage devices have been handpicked by our style experts for a curated grouping covering all rooms in the house.
