< PreviousAnnual Pumpkin Festival returns to Spalding Spalding’s annual Pumpkin Festival will return to the town this year on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 October, celebrating local horticulture and harvest. Organised by South Holland District Council, on Friday the festivities will be hosted in the Gardens of Ayscoughfee Hall, with the festivities continuing in Spalding town centre on the Saturday. In Ayscoughfee, there will be harvest-themed Gardens with decorations created by local community groups, charities and children, as well as a special illuminated trail featuring Pumpkin Sculptures by artist Jonathan Nicholls. There will also be a fire garden with fire-lit sculptures and a fire performer, alongside garden games, live music, barn dancing and more. On the Saturday visitors will be able to buy delicious food, crafts and gifts from special stalls, alongside usual Saturday market traders. The games continue here amongst street entertainment, live performances and scarecrow competition, with a ‘ride on pedal tractor corner’ as well. There will be a chance for children to meet Cinderella and see her carriage, before taking a stroll down ‘Pumpkin Street’ with professionally carved Pumpkin sculptures. Heritage project designed to help future generations in Lincolnshire nears completion Hundreds of years of history and development in 30 Lincolnshire towns has been recorded and saved for future generations following the completion of a four-year project. The Extensive Urban Survey (EUS) is an Historic England-funded project which has been carried out by Lincolnshire County Council. The project began in Holbeach in 2018 to record the archaeology and physical and social development of our historic places in order to safeguard vital information. The 30 towns involved have also been digitally mapped to help illustrate the growth of each and also to spot patterns. For example, has the town grown around a medieval market centre or along a river? These maps visualise how the towns have changed over time from medieval field-scapes to 1960’s golf courses – everywhere has a history. Project leader, Nicola Grayson said: “The completion of this project will mean that there is all this knowledge and information available in one place for the benefit of future generations.” Plans lodged to revitalise community hub in Epworth A planning application has been submitted to transform the Epworth Community Hub. Through the plans a new library, training kitchen, multi-purpose community spaces, and additional workout space will all be added to the existing leisure centre. Outside, visitors would benefit from additional car parking, including electric vehicle charging points. The project is part of North Lincolnshire Council’s £5m community investment programme, which makes it easier for residents to access support in the heart of their communities. Conveniently, community hubs join facilities together under one roof, reducing the need for unnecessary journeys across larger areas. The Epworth Community Hub follows the successful transformations in Ashby, Barton, Brigg, Crowle and Riddings. latest news © stock.adobe.com/ Photographee.eu © stock.adobe.com/ Steven F Granville 06-11.qxp_Layout 1 20/09/2022 09:32 Page 5*First Homes scheme is subject to financial qualification for local and selected keyworkers, government and local authority terms and conditions apply. Since we have open fields at the front of us and quite dense trees at the other side, we see quite a few owls at night,” the owners said. The couple added: “We often see a muntjac deer wandering up and down the road too and a badger walking up and down the lane.” The home further boasts plenty of parking for numerous vehicles, separate from the garage, at both sides of the property. Though enjoying the home, the owners are now selling, saying they will miss their lovely neighbours. The couple noted that they have particularly appreciated that despite its quiet position in the village, myriad amenities remain a short walk away, such as the post office, the Co-op, a primary school, and the village hall with its functions and classes.
