As the dark nights draw in, and Jack Frost starts to put inan appearance the county gears up for winter and the numberof events, charity balls and other invites increase threefold. Not that we’re complaining - it’s great to see attendancebooming once more at society evenings and charity balls. Rarelyhave we attended so many functions – in fact, my family will soonbegin to wonder who that strange man is who walks through the door each night, around midnight.Part of the problem is, of course, getting aroundthe county - especially during peak traffic times. So,what great news that we’re to get a new link roadin the city. That’s if the government doesn’t let usdown on the finances of course – as they tried todo over the recent Bomber Command memorial. As readers may know, Bomber Commandsuffered the highest casualty rate of any British unitin the Second World War, losing almost 56,000 of its125,000 volunteers, and the survivors organised amemorial - which, we’re told, the governmentpledged to help fund. Despite it becoming a stateceremony and having the Queen to unveil it, thefunding was later reneged upon, leaving survivorsto cough up almost a million pounds personally forthe event! Fortunately, under pressure from the public andthe national press, Cameron made a U turn - muchto the relief of the poor old veterans, who’d previously been warned they could losetheir houses...Of course no respectable magazine could forget Remembrance Sunday, and this isfeatured prominently in our pages. Elsewhere we explore all that’s best aboutLincolnshire after dark, highlighting the best places to go and things to do to makethe most of those increasingly long evenings. It seems the old idea of the countyclosing down at teatime is now consigned to the history books and, armed with yourfavourite magazine, you should be able to make this a winter, to remember!Good reading, as always and don’t forget to log onto www.lincolnshiretday.net fornews, more events and articles.Steve FisherEditorLincolnshireToday@lincstodaylincolnshiretoday.netEditor:Steve FisherJournalists:Steve Williams, Mike Shields,Elis Ballard, Michael Fisher.
