This description likewisetypifies John and Jane Mannion’s home withits stylish blend of tradition and modernity. But this careful balance of both worldswasn’t achieved overnight. Looking to re-balance their work-life ratio,John and Jane took up a friend’srecommendation for West Moor Housewhich, Jane admits, you would never knowwas there if you weren’t already looking forit. It was exactly this peace and quiet thatthe couple hungered for. With its 4.3 acresof lush Lincolnshire land, the property wasperfect, but far from the stunning home itis today.Though charming, the original buildingwasn’t especially roomy, certainly not up tothe challenge of raising a family. So thecouple embarked on extension plans to givethe property a new lease of life - extendingthe building’s footprint by two thirds.Needless to say, the property needed a lotof work, fortunately John and Jane wereboth up to the task, and the results speakfor themselves. Walking into the entrance porch, itbecomes immediately clear that this is morethan just another house in the country. From here we enter through into thelounge - an impressive space that theMannion’s have made entirely their own.The fire pit dominating the middle of theThis month’sreader’s homecomes witheverything youcould possiblywant from acountry residence, including its ownindoor swimmingpool, gym, snookerroom, sauna and4.3 acres of land. 14-19_Layout 1 15/11/2017 14:11 Page 1HOMESroom is striking and stylish both. It is a greatexample of the ingenuity of the couple’sextension, utilising the original chimney andtransforming it into this statement feature. As above, the dining room balances the twotenants of design with a space that isunmistakably modern with its tiled under heatedfloor and feature wall, but with the stone walland log effect fire, it exudes all the homelygrandness of a country manor. The vast kitchen lacked nothing when itcomes to style. The bespoke Charles York oakwall and base units and granite work surfacescreate a classy décor, though I’d be lying if I saidI wasn’t slightly envious of the integrated winecooler. That said, the walk-in pantry is quite theadvantage and is indicative of the savvy design16 ÁUnder floor heating anddesigner blinds means thisopen airy conservatory is fitfor use all year roundSpacious and modern, thiskitchen is perfect for homecooking, dinner parties andfamiliesA stunning indoor feature, swimming pool complete withsauna, Jacuzzi and shower room14-19_Layout 1 15/11/2017 14:11 Page 216 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYof the property. Leading off from the kitchen via somehandsome French doors is a vastconservatory overlooking the lush grassand trees that surround the property. Theview is divine and so it’s little surprise thatthe Mannion’s have a table and chairs atthe centre. Breakfast with this view mustbe a rousing way to get out of bed in themorning, but it’s the dinner parties andfestive get-togethers where the spacemust really come into its own. Underfloor heating means the space is ideal inwinter, and Thomas Sanderson blindskeep it cool in summer, countering thatmost prevalent of conservatory issues ofbeing far too cold to use in the winter, and too hot for summer. The downstairs bathroom is somethingtruly special, imparting the air of anupmarket hotel or country spa retreat. The burgundy tiles leave me feelingimmediately serene and the sunkenJacuzzi looks tempting indeed. The pièce de résistance though, hasto bethe music room. A spectacularfeature with full height windows offeringanother stunning view of the surroundingcountry and letting in oodles of light. With the piano in one corner, it is obviousthis is a grown-up room - one for sippingdrinks, listening to (or playing) music andenjoying that splendid view. As if that isn’t enough, there’s even asnooker room. This is where the originalgarage used to be, and shows thecanny transformation of the propertyinto the enviable home it is today. Withits wood panelled walls, leather sofa suitand décor choices, it had theappearance of a hunting lodge, or anold fashioned country pub. This was nohome snooker table either, it is a fullsized table with wood panelled sides tomatch the walls. But perhaps the crème da la crème isthe indoor swimming pool. Jane tells usthat, along with the last garage, this wasThe firepit as the heart of thelounge makes a stunningand unique focal point14-19_Layout 1 15/11/2017 14:11 Page 3LINCOLNSHIRETODAY17HOMESthe final stage of the extension plans. If thebathroom has the appeal of a country spa, thenthis took that one step further. The woodpanelled ceiling and brick walls just said rest andrelaxation, while the pool itself has ample roomfor a morning swim or party with its sauna,Jacuzzi and separate shower and toilet. “Thepool was a particular hit with the grandkids,”Jane says. A staircase from the music room takes us upinto the first floor where five pristine and spaciousrooms leave us in no doubt that this is mostcertainly a family home. This same staircase alsoleads to the gym. The room sports a curved ceiling ofwood panelling and enough space for several pieces offitness equipment. The property isn’t lacking outside either, with formalgardens and the surrounding patio. A detached four cargarage and workshop ensures there’s plenty of space fora large family and room for guests, prudent asChristmas is almost upon us. We also have a deckedarea and a pergola. An orchard, vegetable plot andpond accentuate the natural beauty that is thecrowning glory of this impressive home. However, having spent thirty years at West Moor, inwhich time John and Jane have raised a family and seentheir children fly the coop, it now seems an awful lot ofspace for two people. So the couple have made thedifficult decision to downsize and bid farewell to theirbeautiful family home. Jane tells us that with itsabundant acres, it would be a perfect property for afamily with ponies or horses. The property is being soldvia Rural Home with a guide price of £900,000. 14-19_Layout 1 15/11/2017 14:12 Page 6Next >
