That’s where Jocasta’s excel, offering all the necessary services: event power, luxury portabletoilets, furniture, lighting, crockery, bars, fridges, cutlery, kitchenequipment, portable cold rooms, and so the list goes on. Over theyears Jocasta’s have grown to be able to supply everything all fromunder one roof - ensuring every event goes without a hitch; whetherit’s a smaller intimate occasion or an event for up to a thousandguests. Of course, marquee events are not all created equal. This seasonedjournalist has suffered those marquee events where the temperatureis either too hot, or freezing cold and where the food is average, atbest. Fortunately, Jocasta’s events are a far cry from suchexperiences. This is amply demonstrated at the company’sheadquarters, at Thorpe on the Hill in Lincoln, where a lakesidemarquee is erected to demonstrate just what can be achieved, withthe right team and experienced management on hand. Exquisitely decorated and heated to a pleasant temperature, theirglass sided marquee is, quite frankly, breath-taking. It certainlymakes the most of the view over the lake, all enhanced by themarquee’s interior cream silks, brass chandeliers, and stylishlydecorated tables and chairs, neatly finished off with covers anddecorative swags and bows. The far end features a full in-houseDisco with extensive lighting rig, complete with laser light show, dance floor and stage, of course, should clients want a live band. There’s even a full starlight ceiling available for that truly memorableevening. As Steve Horbury, Events Director, tells Lincolnshire Today,“We want our clients’ wedding day to be a day to remember - for allthe right reasons.” Of course, everyone in the wedding business claims this, buttestimony to Jocasta’s success in event management can be seenfrom the glowing tributes and plaudits from so many clients who’veheld their events with Jocasta’s – a quick read of these and it’s plainto see that Steve and his team invest a great deal of time and effortto ensure they deliver every time. Steve takes a vested interest in each event and personally headseach of the company’s onsite weddings. He is the third generationof the family to do this for the Horbury Catering Family. In addition, each wedding is carefully planned and executed by one of their twoWedding and Event Managers. Jocasta’s Group even has an in-house team that can arrangeentertainment, photographers, florists and cakes should clients sowish, but they are just as happy to work alongside the bride andgroom’s own choices if that’s their preferred choice. And, while the splendid and romantic lakeside setting of Jocasta’sis ideal for demonstrating what can be achieved with a marquee, thecompany also offer this venue out for events and weddingreceptions as well as civil ceremonies. It extends all the way down to Sutton onSea and Anderby Creek as well, so there’s plenty to see and do.Highlights are the live music, art exhibitors from all over thecountry and of course the atmosphere! This year’s takes place on6th and 7th September.Lincolnshire Show:A reason to stick around Lincolnshire inJune! We’re there year after year and it seems to get busier eachand every time. Our hospitality tent is packed to the rafters withlive music from Off Limits and great food but just one lap of theshowground should be enough to impress, from fantastic food tolivestock shows and a chance to catch up with all and sundry it’s amust-attend for many, even for those out of the county. Thisyear’s show is on 18th and 19th June.Woodhall Spa:We’ve talked about this village so many timesover the years but it still remains a well-kept secret. Take an hourout of your day and visit the place in holiday season for astrangely vintage village that remains its own unique idyll. Take ina film at the Kinema in the Woods or a cream tea at the manyhotels there and watch the world go by at a distinctly sedatepace. You’ll be glad you did! For those adventurous types, thenewly-refurbished outdoor pool at Jubilee Park is also runningswimming sessions at night!Lincoln Cathedral:People from Lincoln who have roamed farand wide describe the steeples coming into view as ‘cominghome’ and rightly so. Even the returning planes from World WarTwo used to circle the towers for luck when they got back so itreally holds significance. We are impressed at the amount ofpeople who haven’t been up the tower or roof on the daily tours,if you haven’t the views alone are worth the slog up the stairwells. We’ve been several times at different times of the year and it’salways a pleasure. The Lincolnshire Wolds:The wolds are a prized and sometimesoverlooked element to our county. If you are a keen walker, there’s an abundance of opportunities here. Take a walk fromMarket Rasen up to the well-kept secret of the Rambler’s Churchnear Walesby or take an extended wander out of Horncastle downthe canal to really get back to nature. For those who like things abit more remote, north east Lincolnshire has some excellent walkstoo, walks around Laceby and Swallow offer views of the HumberThiscounty, ourhomeThiscounty, ourhomeWe don’t begrudgepeople leavingLincolnshire forholidays. Remembertoo, the Viking Way runs forever though the county, meaning youcan plan more epic expeditions too, even if you want to tacklethem on two wheels.Lincoln Inspired:Not by any means an established festival, butone we hope is here to stay. Inspired is an innovative festival thatcovers arts, books, music and culture. It takes place in Lincolnfrom 6th to 11th May this year. The programme is yet to beconfirmed, but last year’s highlights included a special talk on 50Years of Dr Who, Mitch Benn performing live and a Mad Hatter’sTea Party! For sheer eccentricity and bon viveur, you can’t beatInspired!SO Festival:Skegness holds one of the biggest festivals withinthe county and 2013’s even took in most of the East Lindseydistrict last year with events in Horncastle and Wragby joining inthe action. A mix of street theatre, music and art it certainlybrings the streets alive and culminates in some of the mostimpressive light and firework displays of the summer. I just love to seeall the different architectural shapes of trees now they have shed their leaves. Ilove to see the landscapes, especially up on the Wolds now the crops have beenharvested and fields ploughed. Some fields will be left until spring if they aredown to have potatoes or peas while others have already been sown with wheatand are displaying that silky green sheen of new growth.Winter is a time for painters and photographers to take advantage of theinfinite patterns of light and dark, of greens, browns, reds and blacks of thecountry scene. On my way home a few evenings ago I had to stop and take a look at thesunset. Sunsets are so unpredictable – you cannot plan for them, you are eitherout there as they happen or wish you were. As the sun touched the horizon, thesky’s paint box opened cascading oranges, violets and golds from east to west,COUNTRY DIARY078-079:Layout 1 6/12/13 13:02 Page 1north to south. That row of trees standing like sentinels on the horizon, that only afew minutes ago stood anonymous, now formed an intricate latticework pedestalsupporting this slowly changing kaleidoscope of colour.Consider all the different things are happening at sunset. What seems like a staticscene is a vibrant combination of many different factors. The clouds are moving across the sky and as they move they change their shape. Are they moving toward the horizon or away? If they move toward the setting sunthey may race it to the horizon and all this colour will vanish. The sun movesthrough its circumference in only two minutes and soon it will dip below thatdistant horizon. In no time at all the sun salutes the end of day and is gone. But isthat the end of this colourful display? No, not at all. Now that sun that you cannotsee grazes its light across the high clouds that can still see it and this is more oftenthan not the best show of all.The half hour before and the half hour after sunset is what photographers andpainters call “the magic hour” and magical it can be. Of course some days are grey, the sun is hidden and remains hidden, others are so spectacular people commenton them later that evening, “did you see that sunset tonight?” Yes, we did andluckily we were somewhere where we could see it at its best and it was amemorable experience.... No time to turn at Beauty’s glance, and watch her feet, how they can dance: Notime to wait till her mouth can enrich that smile her eyes began? A poor life this if, full ofcare, we have no time to stand and stare. To order any of the photos in our wildlife articles, visit www.fotolincs.com.LINCOLNSHIRETODAY79078-079:Layout 1 6/12/13 13:02 Page 2Next >
