< Previous50 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYHEALTH & WELLBEINGEstablished to give the modern and traditional man a place tofeel comfortable with “good old fashioned barbering” and wetshaves with hot towels, Luke’s Barbershop is a haven of style, sophistication and a distinct lack of fuss. With no appointmentnecessary, we popped in for a swift and satisfying session. With a focus on offering quality service in the surroundingsmany men are used to, and also with very traditionalsurroundings from the 1930s when barbering shops were at theirpinnacle for men’s grooming, the shop is set out in a simple, yetstylish way. Plush leather barbershop seats sit in front ofgleaming mirrors and the various shaving paraphernalia andephemera make for a quirky, yet smart look.As Luke explains, “We have always felt that with the rightpremises in the right location, we could offer the completepackage. Most men do not like the fuss of making an appointment,or deciding when their hair is due to be cut, so we feel stronglythat this barbershop has no appointments for any of the services. “The shop’s first priority is the people of Navenby and thesurrounding village. Therefore all ages are catered for, from firsthaircuts to our respected senior citizens, men on their way to andfrom work and the surrounding RAF bases.”The luxury wet shave offered at Luke’s consists of a total of fivehot towels, moisturisers, oils, creams, two shaves and a freezingcold towel, leaving the face extremely smooth and soft, all inaround forty minutes. Our trusting volunteer Michael, who, atfirst, was sporting a face full of stubble reported that each towelfelt different as it went onto his face. He says, “It was pleasant, you could tell at which stage you were at and the preparationmeant it was a comfortable experience. I’d probably go back forone if I was heading out into Lincoln or on a date, it’s a smoothshave and quite a relaxing experience.”Luke’s Barbershop, which lies in the picturesque Lincolnvillage of Navenby, is offering something both old andnew to its male customers. The wet shave is back andwith the notion that it should become routine, more andmore men are opting for this most closest of shaves.A close shaveGENTS BARBERING & WET SHAVES19 HIGH STREET, NAVENBY, LINCOLNLN5 0EN01522 811816www.lukesbarbershop.co.uk050:Layout 1 21/1/13 09:58 Page 1Love is inthe air…LINCOLNSHIRETODAY51VALENTINE’SDAYIt may seem like it’s flown around again, but Valentine’s Day is looming again.
