Environment -Our actions extend to: conservation of energy and naturalresources, minimisation of waste and ensuring our trading partners do likewise. As I write these notes, a fair proportion of the UK population isgripped by the Winter Olympics, which seems rather apt here inLincolnshire, given we’ve just had our first flurry of snow here at theLincolnshire Today offices. While it’s hard not to admire people who throw themselves off theside of a mountain or down what is basically a tube of ice in the nameof sport, I’m really more of a sun, sea and sand chap. However, we didrun into Winter Olympic royalty recently, in the shape of Eddie “TheEagle” Edwards, who will be forever remembered as being completelyuseless at the ski jump. He’s way ahead of me, of course, and goodness knows howhe managed to pluck up the courage to do what he did, but in the grand scheme ofthings, he was more Lincoln City than Liverpool. At least he had a go...You could say a ski jump is very much like planning a wedding – there’s hugeamounts of preparation, nerves, steadying yourself, then you’re hurtling down aslope and jumping into the unknown.
