Could it be that spring isfinally upon us – or maybe summer is on its way? Probably best not toget too far ahead of ourselves…There are good sides and downsides to summer. The negativesinclude far too much skin on show, especially from the male of thespecies who think that as soon as the thermometer goes above 15° it’san open invitation to throw off just about every item of clothing they puton that morning and go and walk through a public place. The upside, of course, is that our county really does come to life in the warmermonths. Surely no other region in the UK can boast the sheer number of events thattake place in Lincolnshire as the climate improves. It ranges from small villagegarden fetes, right up to the grand old lady itself, the Lincolnshire Show.On of the most successful county shows in the UK, which is taking place atLincolnshire Showground on 24th and 25th June, attracts sixty thousand peopleover two days - and we’ll be there again, with our famous (or should that beinfamous) corporate hospitality marque. As much as it’s hard work, the build-up toand the actual Show itself are probably the highlight of our year here atLincolnshire Today. We’ve been incredibly busy preparing a few surprises for you at this year’sevent, so put a note in your diary to come and see us for a chat, relax to somemusic and enjoy a glass of something fizzy with great food once again. And wepromise we’ll keep our clothes on, no matter how sunny it gets.As well as looking to the future, this month we also reflect on the past. It’s apoignant month in Lincolnshire as it plays a major role in the commemorationsmarking the anniversary of VE Day, so we’ve taken that as our cue to offer somevintage-inspired features, including retro-styled fashion and a special focus onantiques and collectables, as well as a preview of some of this summer’s memorialevents. But there’s loads going on in the county now, so there’s lots of new ideastoo - as you’ll see from this issue and our website www.lincolnshiretoday.net.Good reading, as alwaysSteve FisherEditorLincolnshireToday@lincstodaylincolnshiretoday.netEditor:Steve FisherJournalists:Steve Williams, Michael Fisher, Stuart PearceySales Director: Teri CooperSales Manager: Angela CooperAccounts: Angela Sharman,John DownesCirculations: Dawn CookDesign & Production: Gary Jorgensen,Mark Casson, Rachel GreenAdvertising: Tel: (01472) 310302, Fax: (01472) 310312 Editorial: Tel: (01472) 310305, Fax: (01472) 310317Part Of The Business Link MagazineGroup: Armstrong House, Armstrong Street,Grimsby, N E Lincs DN31 2QEEmail: lincs-today@blmgroup.co.uk Website: www.lincolnshiretoday.net ISSN No: 1366-1299© All rights reserved. Only it transpires that, a day or so later, wediscover many on the list are Conservative donors, several ofwhom received honours and peerages – quelle surprise! In thewake of this, Labour declares support from other business leadersand quite a few ‘ordinary people’.Do these politicians not realise all they’re doing is showing ushow utterly stupid they are if they believe us to be so gullible? Moreover, when one party scores an own goal why is it necessaryfor the other side to put one in the back of their own net too?For my money, all this just goes to show how far removed thevarious politicians are from reality and another step closer to theway the Americans conduct themselves at election time. I do have onequestion, though, that, as yet, nobody has been able to answer andI wondered if any of your country-dwelling readers could assist.Whenever one buys a pair ofchicken breasts at the localsupermarket, the package appears tocontain one small and one large fillet.I don’t see many lop sided chickensscurrying around in a field so wonderwhy this always happens – cananyone throw any light on this forme? P JacobsLouthPICKOF THEMONTHEaster tiradeDear Lincolnshire Today, I find it so annoying that when we have a rare chance to catch up on gardening over a bankholiday that garden centres and council refuse sites then have to close. I appreciate that churchgoers will say that it is only for one day, but what other religion forces their wishes onto the publicand businesses for that matter. The cost to the UK economy of garden centres closing is around £75 million and the fact thatcouncil refuse sites close is, I’m sure, part of the reason that the very next day we witness new flytipping in laybys and on country roads, costing millions more in clear ups.For goodness’ sake, surely the rules on Easter require a more modern approach – after all, would people really boycott church in favour of tipping refuse or buying compost for their plants?
