I talk of the summers of yesteryear of course. Every year we look forward to one of those great Indiansummers and who knows? We might still be lucky. As you probably know by now, here at Lincolnshire Todaywe like to get out and about at some of the region’s top shows and countryevents, and so this rain is no good to us at all.At the time of writing we’ve just seen most of the Jubilee celebrations takeplace under rather damp canvases, and many no doubt chose to escape the rainand wind for sunnier climes - taking advantage of the elongated Bank Holiday.Whilst you were doing that, we were busy getting ready to take up residence atthe Lincolnshire Show, which as I sit here is still scheduled to go ahead. I’ve gotall my fingers crossed that it does so, because it really is one of the highlights ofour year. We’ve also got big plans for the Waddington Air Show – another greatLincolnshire institution. We hope that whilst the Queen has to cancel her flypast on the Thames, we can triumph and see another great aerial display.I like to think that we’re getting the bad weather out of the way early toavoid disappointments later in the summer, but this is, no doubt, littlecompensation for the organisers of both the Lincolnshire and Waddingtonshows! Would it be too much to ask for the sun to shine on both events? Onlytime will tell, but readers needn’t let that dampen their spirit with the greatofferings we have in our latest issue - there’s a focus on one of our county’sbest-known resorts, Skegness, and a look at some of the invaluable work theLincolnshire Air Ambulance does every day, all year round. If theaforementioned weather stays on our side it will be time to dust off thosebarbecues soon, so we’ve got some advice for you if you feel like cooking alfresco as well as our usual features packed with ideas on fashion, health andfitness, a guide to what’s on out and about and much more besides! Now do I need to pack my wellies or my shades for the Lincolnshire Show?Best take both, as the old adage goes ‘Always be prepared’, either way, we’reprepared for a great summer packed full of events and we hope this issue helpsyou to be so too.Good reading, as always,Steve FisherEditorWelcome toLincolnshire TodayLincolnshireToday@lincstodaylincolnshiretoday.net003:Layout 1 14/6/12 14:41 Page 1Features20 AntiquesThe latest news from across the county for collectable26 Brigg and BartonWhy not pay a visit to these wonderful county towns?32 Olympics 2012Lincolnshire’s top athletes and competitors quizzed59 Local ProduceIt’s time to get cooking al fresco!78 SkegnessOh we do like to be beside the seaside!82 Getting activeWe send our willing volunteer zorbing and paintballing!90 Business LincsOur county continues to punch above its weight in business94 Pet CareLooking after your critters with careLooking good36 Get the look!Be fun and flirty with some gorgeous outfits44 Summer styleAccessorise to get the best look46 Luscious looksHow to look glamorous and well-groomed this season50 Keeping it upMarti Wycherley tells you how to maintain trainingAt home15 Green retreatWe meet a couple doing their bit for the planet and their energy bills22 An enchanting spaceWe visit the wonderful Aubourn Hall grounds36July 2012ContentsContents004-005:Layout 1 14/6/12 14:40 Page 1Leisure30 Lincolnshire WalksEscape into the countryside with our walkingguide Hugh Marrows67 Days OutGet out and about this summer with our must-seeguideCounty Motoring85 We mean businessThe best in hatchbacks for leisure and commutingSocial Scenes12 Sportsmans Dinner 29 Glitz and Glamour Ball 35Young Farmers’ Rally and Summer Ball 84 St Barnabus Regulars7 News Stories from around the county74 What’s On Forthcoming events across Lincolnshire81 The reviewOur critics review the latest books, music and films92 Walk on the wild sideWe take a look at wildlife around the county thistime of year96 HoroscopesWhat will your stars say?Front cover courtesy of Noa Noa85673246004-005:Layout 1 14/6/12 14:40 Page 2006:Layout 1 15/6/12 10:11 Page 1Continuing the fight against crimeCrime-fighting charity Crimestoppers was founded in 1988 by Lord Ashcroft,KCMG, with the intention of offering the public a service to pass on informationabout crime anonymously. Drinkstend not to be measured outside of a pub atmosphereand therefore people can easily lose track. Remember, even small amounts of alcohol can affect driving. At 1/2the legal limit you are twice as likely to have a crash. It takes around 1 hour for your body to get rid of eachunit of alcohol, but can take longer, meaning you couldstill be over the limit the next morning. One in sixdrivers over the limit are caught the following morning.Have fun, but be aware of how much you’ve consumed. His style was gently mocking butreally informative, we certainly left the evening knowing much moreabout the hidden tastes of wines than we did before. After the wine tasting was an amazing performance from theMocking Birds, a group from Caistor, who complemented the laid-back atmosphere perfectly.
