With only a few properties close by and spaced apartmore than you would imagine, the property is truly yourown. As Derek points out, it is incredibly unlikely that anyplanning would be granted in this area of natural beauty andparticularly on the golf course. With Gainsborough close by, youdon’t feel too cut off from civilisation either.Derek points out that once the flight of golf balls have ceased forthe night, nature comes out to reclaim the course too, the area isteeming with rabbits, owls and foxes. Derek says he’s even spotteda deer emerging from the woods late at night too. Josie has apassion for her wares that is clearly a personal hobby as well.Having studied fashion design at Newcastle University, her workin corporate clothing and fashion houses such as Jigsaw inSydney, Australia led her to strive for a more inspiring careerwhen she returned to Lincoln. Her creative drive led her to thedecision to start her own business and so, along with localknowledge and pure determination, Follie was born in its Bailgatelocation. On the contents of her shop, Josie is candid, she says, “Igenerally only really stock products based on whether I like themor not, a lot of the items are also in my own home too, so it’squite personal. I don’t believe in having a shop and just stickingstuff in it to sell. I also think people prefer to know who it is theyare dealing with so when they come in for a potter and a chat, they know I’ll be here to help. This means they are more likely tocome back, it might be for just one visit a year but it all makes adifference. I have people come in for a browse, then return for awhole load of Christmas presents for example.”To source her items, Josie scours antique fairs both locally andin France to find those irresistible items, but also visits tradeshows across the country to see what others are offering and tofind those unique, one-of-a-kind items too. Her best-selling hand-sewn personalised linen hearts do particularly well and it’s easy tosee why. Everywhere you turn there are lavender filled, hangingheart decorations and this comes from Josie’s love of vintagefabric. “I can’t bear the thought of a gorgeous piece of materialbeing thrown away so I keep everything. The hearts are bespokeand go all over the world, I usually have a waiting list of aroundtwo weeks for them so you’ll often find me on the sewingmachine if you pop in!”Josie has a phrase which rings true when it comes to herproducts, “I always think a good gift is one that is hard to giveaway,” she says. “This is really clear when you look at some of theitems I have here from local producers like Wrendale Cards andSophie Allport homeware, they’re just beautiful”. Current trendshave certainly helped at Follie, with upcycled, painted, vintagemirrors and furniture available too and cleverly combining withnew suppliers, adds to its treasure-trove feel of a place.Complimented by a shop interior of wooden beams and originalfeatures that come with having a shop in the heart of Lincoln’shistoric area, why not pay a visit and see what strikes you too?An array ofINSPIRATIONIf you’re in need of some finishing touches foryour home, you can’t go far wrong with Follie,Josie Rossington’s shop, which has been tradingon Lincoln’s Bailgate for nine years and hassomething to suit everyone.for all your finishing toucheswww.follie.co.uk83 Bailgate, Lincoln, LN1 3ARTel:01522 579400025:Layout 1 17/6/13 09:39 Page 126 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYARTISTIC LINCOLNSHIREAt 23, Emma has already immersedherself in the sea as a way of life.
