The moneyis in addition to the already committed £7 million fund as part of the council’s budget in February.New indoor tennisfacility to be builtnear LincolnWork has begun on Lincolnshire Tennis’ 42nd registered club, TheLincoln Tennis Academy, a new three court indoor tennis venue inDunholme. The three ply airdome will cover three new tarmacadam courts that areto be built over the two aging courts already on site.The directors behind this new venture are well known tennis players/coaches, NickPratt, Ken Tunstall and Dave Williams, and local farmer Andrew Ottewell.Lincolnshire Tennis fully supports this project and has made a £15,000 interest free loan over 10 years. The agreementincludes some weekend court usage for county training over 15 years.Nick says: “It is an exciting time for us now that work has started on the site in order to bring another indoor tennisfacility to the north of Lincoln. The £225,000 Claypole Community Park hasprovision for sports pitches, plus an exercise trail that evenincludes a zip-wire.Future plans for the park include the installation of askateboard/roller blade facility and the refurbishment of tenniscourts to become a multi-use games area.A £10,000 grant from the Community Fund, along withcontributions from Sport England and the Playing Fields LegacyFund have paid for the installation of a new football pitch andenclosed the area to increase security and allow better sitemanagement.Another £10,000 from the Community Fund went towardsequipment in the leisure park area, which also received major supportfrom Awards For All and Persimmon Homes.John McCay has been invited by Visit Lincoln to become a representative for Lincolnshire on the new Cycle England Project Boardan initiative led by Welcome to Yorkshire and Visit Lincoln.The project, which is one of 15 funded by Discover England and led by Visit England, seeks to encourage cycling tourists to visitLincolnshire and Yorkshire, and specifically targets the Dutch and German markets.
