< Previous70 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY CARING avoided by speaking with a solicitor about a will in a meeting that might only take a few hours. There are online resources for `DIY wills` available, but many of these aren’t legally sound and can lead to trouble further down the line. It’s always best to talk to a professional on the matter. There are numerous health benefits to ensuring all your affairs are in order, and these are things which can be great not only for enjoying your final years, but also prolonging them. First of all, doubt and stress are natural when a person feels they might not have much time left. There are a lot of concerns in place and questions about what will happen and how people will cope once you are gone. While the emotional impact of a death cannot be mitigated entirely, science has shown that the act of fulfilling a loved one’s final wishes, and of attending the funeral, is important in helping the healing process and learning to accept the loss. This makes sense, because funerals have been around for thousands of years across many cultures in the world – from India to Rome, Byzantine to modern-day Lincolnshire. For a ceremony to have existed so long, it’s clear there must be some benefit to it. It’s not only those left behind who benefit, however, as studies also show that – even in younger people – there is a sense of satisfaction earned in knowing there is nothing left to do. We might all be familiar with this sensation when we have just cleaned the house, finished some difficult task or simply gotten all of our work done. Relief pours in and we let out a long sigh as we realise what time we have left is ours to enjoy as we will. This does not change in old age, and having one’s affairs in order gives much the same effect. Finally, the reduction in the stress one feels over what will happen can have life- prolonging effects on a person. Medical records have long shown that stress can reduce lifespan, rob us of energy and lead to a lower quality of life. In our final years, stress should be reduced as much as possible – and there’s no denying the uncertainty of what will happen after death is a major cause of it. All in all, there are numerous benefits to being candid about the ends of our lives, with nerves and being uncomfortable about the matter as aspects that deter us. There are no opportunities to change things after the face, however, so maybe it’s time to be up-front about the matter. If not now, then when? © Shutterstock /Deman Stages to planning a funeral: • Consult the will of the deceased for any special instructions and/or wishes. • Gather close relatives to discuss the news and service. • Establish a budget. • Decide on casket or cremation if no specific instructions left behind. • Select a ceremony, again taking into account last wishes or instructions in will. • Choose a funeral and/or burial site. • Coordinate service with a funeral home. Much of the stress of these choices can be spared unto our relatives by talking about death ahead of time, either by arranging your own funeral, or simply by leaving clear instructions and wishes behind. It is difficult for people to know what you would have wanted, and no one wants to be left uncertain as to whether they did the right thing. 69-71.qxp_Layout 1 23/07/2021 09:04 Page 201775 711 959 www.countrycourtcare.com Spalding Common, Spalding, Lincolnshire, PE11 3AS Fenchurch House Care Home Fenchurch House provides the kind of care we’d want all of our loved ones to receive. We all have choices and it’s important that you start putting yourself first instead of forever accommodating others and pandering to their whims. An old flame may contact you and there will be a big temptation to rekindle that romance. Taurus Apr 21 - May 21 There are still numerous unresolved issues haunting your thoughts, preventing you from achieving a sense of peace and inner contentment. Not everyone will agree with your next course of action and certain friends may accuse you of being insane by contacting this person, but you must follow your heart and do what is right for you in the long run. Gemini May 22 - June 21 It’s never a good idea to believe gossip so form your own opinion and often the least said the better. Keep vital important information close to yourself and choose your friends and confidants wisely. Romance will take a turn for the better once you and your partner begin to speak openly and honestly about your feelings. Cancer Jun 22 - Jul 23 A last-minute change of heart regarding a matter close to your heart could force you to rethink your future plans regarding an important personal or business matter. Whatever your current circumstances may be, you cannot afford to take your wellbeing for granted and if necessary, decline certain invitations if it means you becoming overtired. Leo Jul 24 - Aug 23 The pressure is on and you may feel trapped or cornered by a situation that you are trying to escape from. Romance will prove interesting, if not challenging. Be prepared for just about anything because you never know whom you will meet or what surprises will unfold as a result of you taking a chance on life. Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23 A confrontation with a loved one or work colleague may arise unexpectedly and you will have to think quickly on your feet if you are to make yourself understood. If in doubt, say now because there is wisdom in silence and much to be gained by not forever pandering to the whims of others. Libra Sep 24 - Oct 23 Start taking more of a concentrated interest in your finances and look at new ways of making a few wise investments. An exciting new business opportunity will enable you to double your money and live more comfortably, but first you must do all the groundwork and get a promising project off the ground. Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22 There are times when you enjoy nothing more than to retreat into the comfort of your home, enjoying your own company and relishing your space and privacy. No one knows what you are thinking or what action you will take next, and you don’t particularly want them to either. Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21 You are known for being fiery and hot headed at times, but at least you are not boring and people love being in your company. You know you find it difficult to hide your inner feelings especially if you are the sensitive type and wear your heart on your sleeve. Astrology by Linda Lancashire 0776 4466381 www.lindalancashire.co.uk teresastanley1@btinternet.co.uk Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20 You may notice someone is spending silly money and behaving irresponsibly, which will cause you a degree of annoyance and irritation. If your personal relationships have proved difficult and are causing you to worry and feel anxious, work on rebuilding your self-esteem and start taking control of your life by re empowering yourself. Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19 Take a good long hard look at the state of your finances. Investments made wisely will yield staggering rewards at a later date. Are you in love again? Even close friends are noticing a change in your demeanour because you are probably starting to feel so much happier. Arrange a social gathering with a few of your closest friends. Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20 You are smarter than you think and will only take so much from anyone before you blow your stack. If you are looking at going self-employed, do your homework and examine all your options because everything needs careful thinking about and planning. Hannah took the snap of the cheeky chip-stealing seagull on her iPhone all the way back in 2011 in Bridlington, East Yorkshire. The opportunity arose after she and her husband were accosted by seagulls after stopping to buy fish and shops. Google used the image on billboards and online ads for its search service for a thirty-day period. Send your rib-ticklers to d.cuthbert@blmgroup.co.uk The lockdown has been hard on all of us, but it’s also brought out the best of humanity and demonstrated the true meaning of community. In this special edition of By the Watercooler, we bring you three stories that have emerged over the lockdown that have made us smile and, we hope, will also bring you joy. Would you live on ‘Fatty Bum Bum Street’? We’re no strangers to funny, often rude place names here in Lincolnshire. Why, just the other day one of our journalists drove past a ‘Fanny Hands Lane’. Ahem. However, one street has taken the proverbial biscuit. One side street in Saxilby near Lincoln has the unfortunate pleasure of being named ‘Fatty Bum Bum Street’, albeit only on Google Maps. Of course, there’s no rhyme or reason why. Our guess would be some ne’er-do-well having some fun with a little hack, but who knows? If any readers can illuminate us, we’d be grateful. By the The not-so beautiful game Football might be the beautiful game but, sadly, it has some of the vilest fans going. One particularly reprehensible group refused to accept England’s recent defeat in the Euro 2020 final with goodwill and sportsmanship and instead went and vandalised Tiamo, an Italian restaurant in Sleaford. Violent, petty and xenophobic, this is exactly the kind of antics that gives football fans a bad name. Sport is supposed to unite cultures and countries, break down barriers rather than build them up. So as far as we’re concerned, these aren’t football fans, but thugs looking for an excuse. Fortunately, they are in a minority. © Shutterstock/Anna_Pustynnikova © Hannah Huxford © Google Maps 74.qxp_Layout 1 23/07/2021 09:43 Page 175.qxp_Layout 1 23/07/2021 08:08 Page 1CROFT CARPETS CARPETS FLOORING CURTAINS & BLINDS Move furniture Uplift and dispose of existing flooring We will beat any like for like quote CURTAINS & BLINDS LTD The Pelham Centre, Canwick Road, Lincoln LN5 8HE 01522 523004 76.qxp_Layout 1 23/07/2021 08:09 Page 1Next >
