Herlayered glass art depicts not only thenatural world that Lincolnshire has inabundance, but iconic landmarks too.We spot the beach huts at Mablethorpeamong other famous scenes from aroundthe county immediately, but look closerand the more esoteric pieces could beanywhere in the area. Her range of stylesis astounding, no doubt informed by herdegree in Contemporary DecorativeCrafts in 2004 from the University ofLincoln.Adele tells us, “I had an accident atwork and started an art and designcourse part time, which encouraged meto get back into what I really enjoydoing. I thought I’d give it a go and herewe are today. My work takes severalforms, not just decorative. I’ve hadcommissions to make business awards, for wedding presents or anniversary gifts,I think it’s because people wantsomething unique.”Adele works out of a cosy convertedwashhouse in her garden, which is piledhigh with sheets of glass as well as jars ofpowdered, coloured particulate whichshe endlessly experiments with to createher often multi-layered work. A semi-opaque example she shows us hasseveral elements that will changedepending on the light coming throughit. Dark glass harbours some stick-thinplant outlines and given the rightamount of light will show up a perfectfull moon behind.Other pieces stand out simply becausethey are stunning, the rusted legs of apier are reflected in the sea on onepiece, whereas a piece depicting a huge, colourful flower is charming in itssimplicity and bold statements. As well as making commissions, Adelealso shows her work across the countryat craft and art events and exhibitions. Arecent event that has proven a highlightwas 1000 Years of Crafts at LincolnCastle, where Adele says she got tospeak to people about the methods usedto create her work. Also a member of the LincolnshireArtists Society, Art on the Map and theRoyal Society of Wildlife Trusts, you aresure to be able to find her work ondisplay around the county at any giventime.
