Only this morning I popped out to feed my fish anddiscovered it wasn’t exactly shorts weather any more. In fact there wasa definite nip, which can mean only one thing – summer is almostcertainly over, and it’s time to break out the jumpers again. We can hardly grumble though, as this has been one of the bestsummers we’ve enjoyed in years. We’ve taken huge advantage of thatin Lincolnshire Today, zigzagging across the county with our marquee, appearing at the countless shows Lincolnshire has to offer, andputting faces to names old and new. However, as one chapter closes, a new one opens. Autumn is a time of the yearwhen the sights, the smells and the sounds really show off Lincolnshire to its best.Sure, it might be a bit chillier, and the nights draw in pretty rapidly, but there’s noneed to sit at home with the curtains drawn and frantically clicking your TV remotetrying to find a decent programme – after all that’s nigh on impossible, anyway, even though we’ve now got four hundred channels. As the evenings get longer we all crave a little more luxury and pampering. So,our prestigious ‘Deliciously Lincolnshire’ Awards highlighting the county’s greatestculinary establishments will be of particular interest. Judging these awards getstougher every year and 2013’s selection is the best yet. If you’re looking for a warmwelcome in the colder months, it’s your ultimate guide. And, with October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’ve marked theevent in style to recognise all those affected by cancer as well as those who work inthe fight against it. We feature the numerous ways in which you can support thosetrying to fight cancer.Of course, we’ll continue to bring you the best in what’s happening aroundLincolnshire, as the hectic Autumn unfurls. All the way to Christmas, there’s so muchjust around the corner – and we’re here to cover it all, as ever.Good reading, as alwaysSteve FisherEditorLincolnshireToday@lincstodaylincolnshiretoday.netEditor:Steve FisherJournalists:Steve Williams, Mike Shields, Michael Fisher, Stuart PearceySales Director: Teri CooperSales Manager: Angela CooperSales: Marie RuddAccounts: Angela Sharman,John DownesCirculations: Dawn CookDesign & Production: Gary Jorgensen,Mark Casson, Rachel GreenAdvertising: Tel: (01472) 310302, Fax: (01472) 310312 Editorial:Tel: (01472) 310305, Fax: (01472) 310317Part Of The Business Link MagazineGroup: Armstrong House, Armstrong Street,Grimsby,N E Lincs DN31 2QEEmail: lincs-today@blmgroup.co.uk Website: www.lincolnshiretoday.net ISSN No: 1366-1299© All rights reserved. If you have any news, views or issuesyou would like us to cover, do get in touch.A lot of men needed...Dear Lincolnshire Today,Age UK Lincoln started the A-Lot-‘o’-Men project in March,in partnership with Lincoln Contact Club, the Lincoln andLindsey Blind Society and the Lincoln Association of Peoplewith Disabilities, and have leased a plot at the BoulthamGlebe Allotments in Lincoln. This project gives men in Lincoln a fantastic opportunity totake part in something social, challenging and rewardingthrough which they can make new friends and learn newskills. It’s often a little harder to get men involved in certainactivities, so we thought this was the ideal way to includethose who maybe don’t want to join other classes or clubsthat we offer.Age UK Lincoln is asking men over fifty to come and jointhe fun. You don’t need to have any technical skills or beparticularly green-fingered; it’s a great opportunity to learn.Likewise, experienced gardeners are also more than welcome.H BurtLincolnMaking IT countDear Lincolnshire Today,Congratulations to the Lincolnshire CountyCouncil-run broadband project which hasbrought forward a plan that could see businesses inHorncastle using cutting-edge digital equipment for free as onlincolnshirelaunches plans for a new Technology Hub in the town. I really did not expect to read such anangry, ignorant, and ill-informed piece. I was honestlyshocked. Steve Fisher will probably think I'm a softie liberalfor saying this, but people on methadone prescriptions areoften decent human beings trying to get off street drugs. They can even be middle class citizens who have dads andbrothers and friends like me, or Steve. Anyway, I'moffended.T. Neil-HewisemailEd: Seems you missed the point that my comments were notaimed at the people taking the methadone but at theinstitutions who choose to serve it in full view of the generalpublic, including children who are naturally curious.Beach boostDear Lincolnshire TodayWhat heartening news that coastal towns in Greater Lincolnshire are set for afunding boost after the Government announced a five per cent increase to theCoastal Communities Fund. So much work has been done to improve ourbeaches, and yet the towns around them remain relatively deprived.
