Mr Tesha said: “These injections treat wet macular degeneration, which is a less common form of AMD. However wet macular degeneration does tend to have a more severe and rapid effect on the central area of vision so anyone suffering from central vision blurring or distortion – where straight lines appear wavy or crooked – may have wet AMD and should to be referred urgently.”“The previous wet AMD treatment often required monthly monitoring to assess if patients needed retreatment.” “The new injections are given every two months, after an initial loading dose, and do not require monitoring. This should reduce travel time for patients, something that can be a great help to people living in the more rural parts of Lincolnshire.”The treatment takes about 15 minutes and is performed under local anaesthetic.010:Layout 1 16/9/13 09:01 Page 1AMAZINGJEWELLERYSPEND £50 &CHOOSE 1 OF 4 FABULOUS FREE GIFTSJOHN GREED COLLECTIONS 20% OFFQUOTELINCSTODAY IN STOREwww.JohnGreedJewellery.com • John Greed Jewellery, 314-315 High Street, Lincoln, LN5 7DRLINCOLNSHIRE’S LEADING STOCKIST OF DESIGNER JEWELLERY LINCOLN NSHIRE’S LEADING S T OF DESIGNOCKIS YNER JEWELLER 011:Layout 1 13/9/13 12:58 Page 112 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYWOODHALL SPAThis year has particularly poignantresonance in Woodhall Spa as it marksseventy years since the legendaryDambusters’ raid. The 617 Squadronwere based at RAF Woodhall Spa fromJanuary 1944 until the end of hostilitiesand the Petwood Hotel wascommandeered by the Air Ministry toserve as the Officer’s Mess. WoodhallSpa is proud of its role in the heart ofbomber county and a host of eventsover the past few months hascommemorated its vital role in WorldWar II.The most prominent commemorationis the new 617 Squadron memorial thatsits alongside the World War II memorialin Royal Square. The new memorial, designed by Sylvia Waugh, and shapedto symbolise the Vulcan and Tornadoaircraft, pays tribute to all the air andground crew from 617 who gave theirlives for their country after 1945, andtwo of the original Dambusters in LesMunro and George “Johnny” Johnsonwere invited to unveil the new sculptureearlier this summer, Les even travellingfrom New Zealand for the ceremony. The Petwood Hotel, which pridesitself on its role in the war and has ahuge collection of memorabilia ondisplay, has also commemorated theanniversary in recent months. Theyopened up a forties-style Squadron Barallowing visitors to experiencesomething of what it must have beenlike the Officers at the time. The Hotelalso teamed up with one of the town’smost atmospheric and appealingvenues, The Kinema in the Woods, tohost a special screening of the famousfilm based on the mission. The Kinema itself isn’t just a museum, though – it remains a cinema andshows many of the latest films. It maysometimes seem a little unusual to bewatching a big Hollywood blockbusteralongside the old-fashioned concessionsstall and sometimes with the originalCompton organ being played duringthe intermission, but it’s great fun. TheKinema also hosts special screeningsthroughout the year of popular and lesswell-known pictures. Thanks to the Dambustersanniversary, this summer’s 1940sFestival had an extra special edge toproceedings. In August a fantasticweekend of parades, streetentertainment and re-enactments sawthe town step back in time. As all thingsvintage are becoming increasinglypopular, it’s not surprising that manyyoung people were involved in theproceedings with many dressing up inforties fashion.Although there’s a real sense ofhistory in Woodhall Spa and plenty ofhistorical venues to visit, a notableexception has been the airfield itselfwhich at the moment can’t be accessedby the public and is owned by aconstruction firm. However theLincolnshire Wildlife Trust are in theprocess of applying for lottery fundingwith the intention to preserve some ofthe existing wartime buildings, create atribute to the Dambusters themselvesand use the rest of the site for a newnature reserve which could provide ahome for a variety of birds. These plans are very much in theearly stages but the will appears to be14 Writing the next chapterThe past year has been a pretty big one for Woodhall Spa. It’s paid tribute to its rich historywhile also looking ahead to a bright and prosperous future. The Inn at WoodhallSpa is the town’s latestvenue – a modern hotelin a traditional setting012-014:Layout 1 16/9/13 08:37 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY13PETER SCOTT1 THE BROADWAYWOODHALL SPA 01526 353935Open 7 dayswww.peterscottshoes.co.uk£59.99CHARLES H. Oneof the biggest developments in the townis the new Inn at Woodhall Spa. This usedto be the old Woodhall Spa but, extensive renovation and two millionpounds later, it’s now a chic brasserie andluxury hotel. The pretty Edwardianbuilding remains intact but the inside hasbeen completely refurbished to create amodern and highly attractive modernvenue. One nice touch is that thetraditional-style pub inside the venue isnamed 617 – a little tribute to theDambusters squadron.Woodhall Spa also offers myriadindependent traders too so the HighStreet is far removed from the familiardrab town centres you can sometimesfind. Watch out instead for a fantasticallywide range of one-off gifts, exclusivefashions and something to suit all tastes!Woodhall Spa is probably the historicalheart of Lincolnshire and if you’ve got aninterest in the country’s aviation heritagethen it’s well worth a visit as there arepoignant reminders everywhere you look.Yet it’s also continuing to innovate andsome subtle changes over the next fewyears will add to the next chapter in itsrich history. The Kinema in the Woods, with itsoriginal Compton organ, is ahighly memorable venue for thelatest blockbustersThe LincolnshireWildlife Trust are in theprocess of applying for lotteryfunding with the intention topreserve some of the existingwartime buildings, create a tributeto the Dambusters themselves anduse the rest of the site for a newnature reserve which couldprovide a home for avariety of birds012-014:Layout 1 16/9/13 08:37 Page 3Step back in timeIN LINCOLNPHOTOS: ANGIE COOPERLincoln’s Old Palace was a suitable setting for a medieval banquet in aid of TheMukherjee Brothers Charitable Trust, which provides funding for Primary Schools in thecounty where local or central government funding isn’t forthcoming.Organised by the Red Hall Clinic of Lincoln, many of the guests took the opportunityto dress accordingly, and all enjoyed the fabulous two course dinner, including a hogroast, plus a charity auction and dancing and live music into the early hours.LINCOLNSHIRETODAY15SOCIAL SCENE015:Layout 1 13/9/13 13:03 Page 1QWK&HQWXU\*UDGH,,OLVWHG*HRUJLDQIRUPHU5HFWRU\VLWXDWHGLQWKHKLVWRULFYLOODJHRI%UDQVWRQ/LQFROQVKLUHRIIHULQJDFRQWHPSRUDU\VW\OHRIOLYLQJZLWKLQDFODVVLFDOFRXQWU\VHWWLQJAViewing by appointment only | www.haintonhouse.co.ukHAINTON HOUSE | CHURCH ROAD | BRANSTON | LINCOLNSHIRE LN4 1LZFor information and sales, contact:Mel Parker_Pygott & CroneT 01522 536777_/DZUHQFH+RXVH_&ODVNHWJDWH_/LQFROQ/1-- Prices from 135,000 to 220,000 6eYen indiYidual 1 & 2 bedroom elegant country apartments, a 2 bedroom Cottage and separate *eorgian ¶6moke· +ouse. 5estoration of a *rade ,, 1th Century former 5ectory *ood transport links 6et within a communal walled garden016:Layout 1 13/9/13 12:57 Page 1017:Layout 1 13/9/13 12:57 Page 1Pilgrims ChaseWygate ParkWintergold AveAvignon RdNicolette WayEstella WayWygate RoadWWygate RdEdward RdSPALDINGA605Oundle RoadBrambles WayWistow WayA1139The ShiresPETERBOROUGHWITHAM LNGREEN LNWITHAMST HUGH’SHALFWAY HOUSE LANENETTLETON DRCHESHIRE LNGIBSON GREENA46Roman FieldsWITHAM LNLINCOLNSHIREBeautiful new homes in LincolnshireROMAN FIELDSJuniper Way, Witham St Hugh’s, Lincolnshire, LN6 9YP r#FBVUJGVMPQFODPVOUSZTJEFr8JUIJOFBTZSFBDIPG-JODPMOBOE/FXBSLr"BOEUIF"DMPTFCZ3 & 4 bedroom homesPrice starts from £109,995Help to Buy5BZMPS8JNQFZUFSNTBOEDPOEJUJPOTBQQMZ*NBHFTGPSJMMVTUSBUJPOQVSQPTFTPOMZ1SJDFTDPSSFDUBUUJNFPGHPJOHUPQSFTT&MJHJCMFBQQMJDBOUTXJMMPGGFSFEBOFRVJUZMPBOPGVQUPBNBYJNVNPGPGUIFQVSDIBTFQSJDF CBTFEPOUIFPQFONBSLFUWBMVF "QQMJDBOUTBSFSFRVJSFEUPGVOEBUMFBTUPGUIFQVSDIBTFQSJDFCZNFBOTPGBDPOWFOUJPOBMNPSUHBHFTBWJOHTBOEBOZEFQPTJUXIFSFSFRVJSFE'PSUIFàSTUàWFZFBSTUIFSFJTOPGFFDIBSHFEPOUIFFRVJUZMPBODPNQPOFOU"UUIFTUBSUPGZFBSTJYBGFFPGJTQBZBCMFPOUIFFRVJUZMPBOXIJDISJTFTBOOVBMMZCZ31*JOáBUJPOQMVT5IFFRVJUZMPBOJTQSPWJEFECZUIF)$"BOEIFMEBTBTFDPOEDIBSHF5FSNTBOEDPOEJUJPOTBQQMZBOEGVMMEFUBJMTXJMMCFQSPWJEFEPOSFRVFTU5IJTPGGFSJTTVCKFDUBOEPOMZBWBJMBCMFPOTFMFDUFEEFWFMPQNFOUTBOEQSPQFSUJFTJO&OHMBOEPOMZ*UJTOPUPGGFSFEXJUIBOZPUIFSQSPNPUJPO:063)0.&.":#&3&1044&44&%*':06%0/05,&&1613&1":.&/540/:063.035("(&0BL4QSJOH(BSEFOTSFGFSSFEUPBCPWFIBWFZFUUPCFDPOTUSVDUFEø5IFJNBHFTPGUIFIPNFTTIPXOBSFSFQSFTFOUBUJWFBOEUIFBDUVBMIPNFTNBZWBSZTaylor Wimpey in your areaTHE SHIRES-PDI-PNPOE8BZ0SUPO/PSUIHBUF1FUFSCPSPVHI1&#-r0OUIFTJUFPGUIF&BTUPG&OHMBOETIPXHSPVOEr$MPTFUP1FUFSCPSPVHIBOEUSBOTQPSUMJOLT3 & 4 bedroom homesPrice starts from £199,995A151B1193A151A15A15Oak Springs GardensRAYMOND MAYS WAYSOUTH RDBOURNE RDBOURNEOAK SPRINGS GARDENS (COMING SOON) 5IF(BCMFT&MTFB1BSL#PVSOF-JODPMOTIJSF1&':r$MPTFUPUIFDFOUSFPG#PVSOFr(PPEDIPJDFPGTDIPPMTJOUIFBSFBr$MPTFUPUIF"BOE"PILGRIMS CHASE8ZHBUF4QBMEJOH-JODPMOTIJSF1&(6r#FBVUJGVMPQFODPVOUSZTJEFr$MPTFUP"BOE"r-PDBMBNFOJUJFTPOZPVSEPPSTUFQ3 & 4 bedroom homes Price starts from £179,995Call 01733 302 758taylorwimpey.co.uk/theshires4BMFT0GàDFPQFOEBJMZBNmQNCall 01522 305 483taylorwimpey.co.uk/romanfi elds4BMFT0GàDFPQFOEBJMZBNmQNCall 01775 660 426taylorwimpey.co.uk/pilgrimschase4BMFT0GàDFPQFOEBJMZBNmQN2, 3, 4 & 5 bedroom homes coming soon to this development. 018:Layout 1 13/9/13 12:58 Page 1ProfessionalTrustedValuedFarming’s changed since we opened for business, but our values haven’t01522 696496 www.walters-property.comRay Phillips FRICS FAAV MRACVicky PhillipsRURAL019:Layout 1 13/9/13 12:59 Page 1Next >
