The title says it all, with its long flowing, gently tousled locks giving your look an effortlesschic. It’s a laid back style that seems to evoke theseason, with ruffled hair a natural partner under aberet or beanie. At the other end we have cropped styles. Hereit’s all about choppy pixie cuts, the blunt lob(that’s long bob) and even bowl cuts get a lookin. These edgier styles aren’t for everyone, oreven every face shape, but for a fresh overhaul toyour style or to embrace androgyny, they’resimply to die for. Make-upFashion weeks can be like their own universe attimes, but one thing they all agreed on this yearwas the over-emphasis of black eyeliner. Gone arethe days when heavy eyeliner was the preserve ofunderground subcultures. It’s gone well and trulymainstream. Go a step further and try a neoncoloured stripe above each eye. Go daring withelectric blue or take a leaf out of the seasonalhues with red or gold. Statement eyes are in, and if there’s one trendyou’ll want to replicate at home it’s theoverdone eyes. It’s not just eyeliner either, withvibrant eyeshadows a staple at all the majorshows, so get colouring those lids. This is aninteresting contrast to the patterned eye lookswe’re seeing more off. This trend exploresnegative space rather than relying on blockcolour. It’s best to experiment and find out whatworks for you. Simple geometric shapes are agreat start. Red lips are a fashion staple and they’ve justbeen reinvented. It’s all about the smudged, justsnogged look and this trend is hot hot hot. Wornby models on the catwalk, this one has quicklybecome a home style favourite. No matter the year or season, there’s always alittle retro thrown in. This season, we’re lookingback to the sixties. Specifically, the sixties lashes.Y’know, the doe eyed look as made famous byTwiggy? Nails Nail trends have been relatively simple over thelast few years. Yes, there have been a fewexperimental ideas out there – remember themirrored effect? – but now we’re seeing thereturn of the statement mani. So think big audacious patterns and texturesand don’t be afraid to experiment. The biggerthe better. This season’s catwalks have seen somepretty extreme manicures, with one model evensporting pierced and chained nails as the BDSMtrend shows no signs of slowing down. Reinvent yourselfTime to spruce up your look – how extreme youtake it is up to you. We’ve collected together thebest of the autumn trends. 44-45_Layout 1 18/09/2017 13:16 Page 246 LINCOLNSHIRETODAY“If you are looking for a marqueewedding in your own grounds, Steveand his team will help you organiseabsolutely everything. Gone are its paganroots and in its place is a commercialisednightmare infecting our shopping aislesas companies clamber for yet another‘spooktacular’ promotion. And so, sweettreats, chocolate and cakes abound, butonly the sternest of souls could forgo anibble or two. In isolation, perhapsHalloween could be written off as a treatday, but alas, it falls in the height ofautumn.Fall has inspired countless creatives forcenturies. The musky scents and deephues as the trees let down their leavesstrikes something poetic inside all people. And yet, it also gives us a craving forcarbs. Although this phenomenon may bemost potent in the winter, it has alreadybegun by September. The pace of ourcreature comforts and other technologieshave far outstripped our physicalevolution, meaning our bodies stillassume we need fattening up for warmth.Clearly, our genetics need time to adjustto central heating. So how can we stick to our healthyintentions with sugary snacks berating usfrom all sides and our own DNAconspiring against us? As is always thecase when it comes to diet and exercise, the secret is hard work and patience. Butwe’re not in the businesses of beingprescriptive, so by all means, have a treator two. No good ever came from denyingall pleasure. Cutting out all sugary or fattyfoods is only upping one’s chances ofgoing on a binge – a far more damagingpractice. Moderation is the golden rule, and balancing a few treats a week withplenty of fruit, vegetables, whole grainsand fibre will be fine. The other thing to bear in mind isexercise, or rather the lack of it.Motivation can be difficult to musterwhen nothing but dark mornings anddeadlines greet you when you get out ofbed. A growing number of people arebeginning the day with a cold shower. The thinking is that by throwing yourselfinto that chilly cascade, you’ve alreadyaccomplished the hardest thing you’lllikely do all day. Everything else should bea cakewalk. While we’re not suggestingyou go and give yourself hypothermia, itis an apt metaphor for exercise. Yes it canbe challenging to muster the will to goout for a jog, get on a bike or hit thegym, but starting is the hardest part. Therush of endorphins that accompanyexercise will quickly takeover leaving youfeeling great. Autumn is the most beautiful time ofyear, and it would be a shame not toappreciate its splendour because of thelethargy from scoffing calorific food and adearth of exercise. Enjoy the season on ahealthy diet and plenty of exercise.Autumnapathy October, that most evocative of months, conjures up images of tawny auburnleaves, the primal glow of an open fire and the misty mornings straight from afairy tale. But there’s also the clear and present threat to your health and fitness. 48-49_Layout 1 18/09/2017 13:47 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY49HEALTH & FITNESS© Shutterstock / christina_pauchi48-49_Layout 1 18/09/2017 13:47 Page 2Next >
