Open Tuesday to Saturday 10am - 4pm each day. www.alfordcraftmarket.co.uk 1 West Street, Alford, Lincs and 14A Market Place, Alford Brigg has to offer, it’s worth visiting on a Thursday or Saturday to see the markets. In so doing, you’ll be part of a traditional that dates back hundreds of years. History tells us that markets have taken place in and around the area since the 13th century after they were granted by the Royal Charter. The crowning glory of this outdoor shopping experience is the town’s monthly farmer’s market, taking place on the fourth Saturday of the month. Taking over the Market Place and extending down Wrawby Street, the market sees local producers, artisans and tradespeople gather to sell their assorted wares. With so much on offer – from arts and crafts and curios to local meat and produce – it’s easy to spend an entire morning just roaming from stall to stall. Adored as these markets are, there’s more to Brigg’s retail offering than stalls. The high street and Market Place are a treasure trove of shops catering to everybody. Be sure to venture down the side streets to find some of the town’s hidden treasures whether that’s a beauty solon tucked away beside the car park, a secluded little coffee shop, or a charming store. If it’s your first time visiting Brigg, you’ll probably notice that the town manages to maintain a healthy variety of independent shops and sellers alongside big names such as B&M, Tesco, Boots and so on. This is all thanks to The Brigg Town Business Partnership which formed back in 2011 to support local traders. Boston It’s estimated that around half of Boston’s population is employed in the agriculture industry – so if any town is well equipped to highlight the best of Lincolnshire produce, you’d suggest it was probably this one. This foodie heritage continues with its ever-popular markets. Fresh food started being sold in the town’s marketplace around a thousand years ago and the tradition continues – in exactly the same location – to this day. They also frequent the array of independent traders that can found along the length of Boston’s High Street. The biweekly Boston Market, which takes place every Saturday and Wednesday in Market Place. A throwback to the medieval era, this event can see over 120 stalls offering a wide range of products and goods, from fresh local produce to crafts and gifts. As outdoor markets have largely been undisturbed by lockdown, locals have still been able to stock up throughout the pandemic. The town is a prime location for shopping in the south of the county. From clothes to cars and everything in between, Boston has a much larger shopping scene than one might initially expect from a town of approximately 65,000. Horncastle Horncastle has no shortage of fun and interesting attractions to keep both adults and little ones alike entertained. Readers with a sweet tooth will be delighted to learn of the town’s traditional sweet shop packed full of all your old favourites – from boiled sweets to toffee and chews. That’s all on top of the artisan shops, traditional pubs and coffee shops peppering the streets. Of course, this being a market town, there are weekly markets held every Thursday and Saturday. Taking place on the second Thursday of every month, the farmers’ market offers an assortment of exquisite local crafts and produce. If you want to share in the celebrations of Horncastle’s rich history and agriculture, this is the place to come. Spalding Spalding lays claim to a mix of unique features, landmarks and offerings alongside a sense of the past coexisting with the present. For centuries, the market town was important for agriculture and used its rail and river links to trade corn, wood, coal and timber. Today it’s famed for its heritage, things to do, and, of course, its shopping experience. For shopping, there’s the Springfields Outlet Shopping & Leisure on Camel Gate. This sprawling open-air outlet mall boasts a massive array of shops covering everything from toys, books and crafts, to clothing and beauty and everything in between. There’s also coffeehouse and cafés. Although Springfields is the town’s principle shopping locale, there’s stores dotted all over, so be sure and explore the high street and all those side streets.
