Details were pretty scant on thestand but pundits reckon this looker could be seen on theroads in the next couple of years.Of course there were literally hundreds of vehicles onshow and we don't have the space for every car but letsjust say, it looks like manufactures have gone all out toseduce buyers once again -and that’s great news for usmere mortals, as it means more creature comforts for ourhard-earned bucks. McLaren has taken the awesome 570S andinjected it with an extra dose of civility. Theresult is the 570GT – a machine that’s as refinedas possible without swapping for a smaller powerunit and additional seats. The 570GT even looks like the 570S, but thereare some major differences between the models. The latter’s flying buttresses have been replacedby curved bodywork that comprises a glasshatch. There’s 220-litres of load space underthere, meaning the 570GT has a practical edgeto it. The car also has a glass roof that makes thecabin airy and full of mood-enhancing light. The engine, normally on display in theMcLaren 570S, is tastefully concealed under aleather floor in the 570GT. While, inside, the cargets extra soundproofing, soft-close doors andelectric heated seats. If that’s not enough to startjustifying those letters ‘G’ and ‘T’, the 570GT isequipped with a more hushed exhaust systemand softer suspension. These changes make the McLaren 570GT a caryou could use every day. The ride is pliableenough to make our pothole-ridden roadsbearable, and motorway cruising din is subduedenough so that your ears don’t bleed. But, just because you could use the GT everyday, it doesn’t mean this is a lacklustre McLaren.Oh no. In every other way, the 570GT doeseverything else a full-fat McLaren does. And,most importantly, it looks one of the meanestcars out there. It’s a major head-turner, that’s forsure. With just a quick stab of the 570GT’s starterbutton, the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 lump barksinto life. Depress the gas pedal and the increaseof velocity is hard-hitting. And snapping up anddown the cogs via the paddle-mounted gears-shifters is a real smile-inducer. Zero to 62mph isdone in an insanely rapid 3.4 seconds, while thetop speed is a licence-losing 204mph.Regardless of the additional luxuries added tothe GT, this cabin stays broadly the same as inthe 570S’. It’s a work of genius in contemporarysports car interior design and a long way fromthe chaotic button-fest of the Ferrari 488. You sitnear to the ground but erect in the 570GT, sovisibility is very good. While the alterations from the 570S to GTcould be seen as minor, they make a substantialdifference to the McLaren driving experience. The British sports car maker has constructed amachine that is as calm as possible, withoutkicking any of the theatre to the kerb. 74-75_Layout 1 18/10/2017 10:26 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY75COUNTY MOTORINGFAST FACTS Max speed: 204 mph0-62 mph: 3.4 secsCombined mpg: 26.4Engine layout: 3799cctwin-turbocharged V8Max. power (PS): 570CO2: 249 g/kmPrice: £154,00074-75_Layout 1 18/10/2017 10:26 Page 2Place a tribute in memory of your loved one on our memorial Christmas treeWe’re also hosting a coffee morning on 1st December between 10am - 12noon,QORYLQJPHPRU\RI0XPJRQHEXWQHYHUIRUJRWWHQHVSHFLDOO\DW&KULVWPDVWLPH[[[From 1st - 22nd DecemberMonday - Friday For more information visitwww.lincolnshire.coop/memorialtreeWe are currently recruiting foster carers and adopters across Lincolnshire.Find out more at one of our upcoming recruitment evenings. For more information, or to book your place, call 01522 554114 or log on at lincolnshire.gov.uk/adoptionandfosteringLincolnshire’s children need you!We accept applicants from all walks of life regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, marital status or religion.FREEGeorgia toilet &basin withevery bathroom orderONLY WITH THISADVERTBathing a problem – we can helpSimply affordable solutions for bathing needs• Wet rooms • Walk in showers • Walk in baths• Waterproof wall panelling• Product & installation guarantee • Slip resistant safety flooring• Grab rails, shower seats & raised toilets • Established family business• Zero VAT on disabled bathroomsDiscounts for over 60’s SSAFA and Ex Service personnelwe design• we supply• we fit• we careCall now to arrange a FREE survey and quoteLincoln 01522 500288Showroom at: Unit 26 Flexspace Lincoln, Roman Way,South Hykeham, Lincoln, LN6 9UHinfo@ahminstallations.co.ukwww.ahminstallations.co.uk76-78_Layout 1 18/10/2017 09:54 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRETODAY77CARINGThere are few of us who could claim toenjoy the freezing chill of winter, orsitting in a draughty house, but for olderfolks, these conditions could lead to anumber of associated illnesses, conditionsand even death. In startling statistics, anestimated 9,000 people died last winterin England and Wales as a result of livingin a cold home. The majority was madeup of elderly people.High blood pressure is an issue as we78 Áget older, but when the temperatureplummets, it can raise blood pressure. Inolder people, blood pressure takes longerto return to normal after being out in thecold. This ups the risk of heart attacks andstrokes, alongside the higher risk of flu, chest infections and other respiratoryproblems that come with the cold. Winter evokes a certainaesthetic with its cool iceblues, stone washedgrey and the pristinewhite of snow. But for allthat beauty, it is one ofthe most perilous timesof year, particularly forthe elderly. Despitethat, the sad fact remains that many older people are stillsuffering in the cold, whether that’s to save money by turningthe heating off, due to a lack of clothing, or being lessphysically aware of temperature changes due to a medicalcondition. A little preparation goes a long way helping to keep youhealthy, safe and comfortable through winter.© Shutterstock / CroMaryThere are a number of proactive ways of staying ahead of thewinter wind. Age UK has put together a handy guide outliningthe best ways to keep warm this winter.* Keep your main living room around 21°C, and the rest ofyour home heated to at least 18°C* Check your thermostat or use a room thermometer tomonitor temperature but if you feel cold, turn the heat up * Get to know how the timer and thermostat on your heatingsystem work. If you have individual thermostats on yourradiators, make sure they’re set at the right temperature in therooms where you spend time* Close the curtains at dusk and fit thermal linings if you can* Put guards on open fires, and be careful not to hangwashing too close to the fire* Don’t block up air vents, as fires and heaters needventilation* Keep your bedroom window closed at night when theweather is cold* Test your carbon monoxide alarms* Contact your local Age UK for a benefits check and adviceon any financial support you may be eligible for.Cliff Bradley & SonsFuneral Directors LtdFor a prompt, sympatheticservice from a recognisedfamily businessPrivate Chapel of RestDay and Night ServicePre-paid funeral plans41 Heaton Street,Gainsborough, DN21 2EA(01427) 810619www.cliffbradley.co.uk78 LINCOLNSHIRETODAYCARING76-78_Layout 1 18/10/2017 09:54 Page 3CleethorpesSaturday 4 NovemberAlanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill –Live on Stage, Beachcomber HolidayPark Experience a night of pure unadulterated nostalgia asone of history’s greatest pop albums is lovingly recreatedlive.
